As a Atutomation and Controls Technician you will provide technical automation and control assistance to support the Suffolk site activities which will include:

  • Install, maintain, and repair automation and control systems in industrial settings.
  • Troubleshoot problems with these systems by performing tests, replacing parts, and using standard electronic equipment.
  • Log equipment usage, parts replacement, and scheduled maintenance such as PMs in CMMS system.
  • Assist with the installation, checkout and commissioning of new automation and control systems and production equipment as needed.
  • Work closely with Electrical & Instrumentation Technicians and all other departments/areas.
  • Apply and enforce quality standards and good craftsmanship, as related to the automation and control fields.
  • Identify and find solutions to recurring production area automation and control problems. Develop, schedule, and track routine automation and control tasks such as PMs, order necessary material, and gather documentation (manuals, drawings, prints, data sheets) to support these tasks.
  • Plan and coordinate automation and control tasks for plant shutdowns.
  • Participate in plant modifications related to automation and control.
  • Ensure an adequate shop library of technical manuals is available for installed automation and control equipment. Update/red-line the site's automation and control drawings and documentation at a sufficient level to provide all technical information required by the E&I shop in the performance of their normal tasks.
  • Ensure good housekeeping and 5S compliance is maintained for assigned areas.
  • Troubleshoot issues and service fiber and Ethernet networks, including servers, media converters, patch cables and other hardware.
  • Perform PMs on networking hardware.

Education:

  • High School Diploma

Qualifications:

  • Adhere to automation and control standards and requirements
  • Equipment maintained in working order and restored upon failure efficiently
  • Work is accomplished in a safe and timely manner to meet production area needs
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to be flexible and handle multiple jobs simultaneously
  • Good working relationship with internal customers and vendors/contractors
  • Ability to read electrical drawings, P&IDs, PFDs, interlock and alarm lists

Physical Requirments:

  • Must have the ability to climb stairs, sit or stand for extended periods, squat, kneel, walk for extended distances, and be able to lift and/or carry 50 pounds.
