Title: Occupational Nurse

Job Summary:

Under the leadership of the Human Resource Manager the Occupational Nurse is responsible for adequate administration of occupational health and wellness activities for the worksites he/she has been assigned. The occupational nurse is in Floor Covering manufacturing will have responsibilities for the Alma Plant located in Alma, GA.

Roles and responsibilities include:

One Day per week in the Clinic

New Hires

  • Nurse will do all screening (covid, drug screen, medical history review, vital signs, audiometric exam, pulmonary function exam, hearing conservation and respirator education,etc) but will work with plant assigned physician for clearance of associate - especially those who meet referral criteria according to physician signed standing orders.

Return to Work Physicals

  • Perform RTW physicals on associates who have been out of work for greater than 2 weeks. RTW physical will consist of urine drug screen and review of fit for duty form provided by treating physician.

Annual Pulmonary Function Testing/Audiometric Exam/Fit Testing

  • Responsible for all occupational surveillance testing and associate record-keeping, surveillance, and follow-up.
  • Coordinate referrals to pulmonologists and other physicians as needed and recommended by medical surveillance results.
  • Nurse to adjust work schedule as needed to see off-shift associates for mandatory testing.

Medical Records

  • Maintain,organizeand audit medical records for all assigned locations.
  • Maintain HIPPA, and privacy for medical records and personally discussed issues.

Temporary Associates Onboarding

  • Responsible for doing baseline hearing and pulmonary function testing on date of hire.
  • Perform required fit testing.
  • Educate on proper respirator wear.
  • Fit associates with proper hearing protection and educate them on hearing conservation.

Injuries

  • Available to assess injuries. All work-related injuries no matter how slight should be assessed by the nurse.
  • Nurse will be on call 24/7 via phone and if possible, should return to the plant if the injury warrants further assessment or additional medical care beyond first aid. If injury is severe, nurse will meet associate at hospital and remain with him/her.
  • If associate is injured after hours, and it is not critical, then the associate should follow up with the nurse during regular scheduled work hours. The nurse should not be called after hours for very minor injuries.
  • If injury requires medical care
  • Report incident to Liberty Mutual
  • Accompany associate to occupational medicine clinic or emergency room for initial treatment.
  • Serve as a case manager and help coordinate follow up care either with the occupational medical clinic or specialist. Work with adjuster to ensure seamless continuity of care throughout the entire process.
  • Accompany injured associate to all doctor visits.
  • Attend any workers compensation hearings as needed.
  • Assist HR manager in updating the OSHA 300 log for the plant.
  • Nurse and HR manager will communicate with corporate safety and risk management as needed.

Random Urine Drug Screening

  • Nurse to conduct random urine drug screen within the first year of hire per policy.
  • Nurse will conduct surveillance urine drug screens on associates who have completed substance abuse rehabilitation to retain employment.
  • If location is under random substance abuse surveillance the nurse will perform random screenings per direction of the Human Resource Manager

First Responders Program

  • Teach bloodborne pathogens annually to all first responders.
  • Teach CPR/First/Aid/AED at least quarterly to keep responders current and to train new responders.
  • Monitor training records for all first responders and ensure that training is current
  • Administer the Bloodborne Pathogens policy and ensure associate who are eligible for hepatitis B vaccination either receive the series of vaccines or decline it.
  • Provide regular training sessions for first responders. Ideally, a safety subcommittee for first responders would be the right way to do this.
  • Schedule Emergency Medical Responder Training as EMR's require refresher training and initial certifications. Training for EMR'saregood for 3 years. BLS for 2 years. Nurse able to teach refresher BLS.

First Aid Cabinets & AED's

  • Delegate audits of first aid cabinets (If locations use cabinets) and AED units to first aid and EMR Trained associates.
  • Maintain a company supplied medical travel bag
  • Ensure audits are being completed.
  • Keep track of audits

Clinic Supplies

  • Monitor clinic supply needs and will send requested orders to the supply clerk for entry into the SAP Order System.
  • Medical supplies and PPE
  • Coordinate annual calibration of all occupational testing equipment
  • Conduct daily calibration of all occupational testing equipment.
  • Keep up with CLIA certification for point of care testing
  • Work with Stericycle and environmental for biohazard waste pickup.

Industrial Hygiene

  • Work with environmental, Industrial Hygienist, and HR to address workplace hazards and concerns.
  • Work with environmental and HR to schedule Liberty Mutual visits as needed.
  • Address associate concerns related to industrial hygiene/occupational health/ergonomic concerns.

Blood Drives

  • Serve as the liaison for the Alma Plant to have regular blood drives

Regular Clinic Hours

  • Be available to assess associate needs both personal and medical
  • Form relationships with associates and build trust.
  • Educate regarding health and wellness - hypertension, diabetes, etc.
  • Provide resources for associates - vocational rehab, employee assistance, tobacco cessation, health advocate, etc.

Professional Certifications

  • The nurse will maintain all certifications to keep professional certifications active. The nurse will keep certification classes on the schedule well before the class is needed and review with Human Resource Manager
