The Hospital Bill Audit (HBA) Bill Breakdown Support is a member of the Post - Pay Bill Breakdown group within the Hospital Bill Audit (HBA) team and supports our auditors and audit process. The primary responsibility of the role is to perform a review of the itemized bill line - by - line and create an electronic bill breakdown to be used by the auditors during their audits.

This position is full time, Monday - Friday. Employees are required to have flexibility to work any of our 8-hour shift schedules during our normal business hours of 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM.

We offer 4 weeks of paid on-the-job training. The hours of training will be aligned with your schedule during normal business hours.

If you are located within Mainland USA, you will have the flexibility to work remotely* as you take on some tough challenges.

Primary Responsibilities:



  • Process provider itemized bills through OCR software for transformation and correction
  • Validate the quantity, revenue code / CPT code, description, unit price and extended price of each line
  • Research and correct any discrepancies found in the line - by - line review
  • Ensure bill breakdown balances to the total charges found in Optum and client system(s)
  • Request itemized bill verifications as needed from Eligibility & Research team
  • Request new itemized bills from providers when necessary
  • Upload completed bill breakdown to Optum system
  • Update Optum system with any notes and required action codes
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:



  • High School Diploma / GED
  • Must be 18 years of age OR older
  • 1+ years of experience in medical claims / billing / collections
  • Understanding of relevant privacy regulations (e.g., HIPAA)
  • Understanding of healthcare billing practices (e.g., Revenue Codes, CPTs, HCPCS)
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office suite; Microsoft Word (ability to create, copy, edit, save, and send documents), Microsoft Excel (ability to create, copy, edit, save, and send spreadsheets), and Microsoft Outlook (email and calendar management)
  • Ability to work any of our shift schedules during our normal business hours of 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM from Monday - Friday



Telecommuting Requirements:



  • Reside within Mainland USA
  • Ability to keep all company sensitive documents secure (if applicable)
  • Required to have a dedicated work area established that is separated from other living areas and provides information privacy
  • Must live in a location that can receive a UnitedHealth Group approved high-speed internet connection or leverage an existing high-speed internet service

The hourly range for this role is $16.00 to $28.85 per hour based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
