Primary Purpose of the Position
The Department of Communication and Media Studies is seeking a pool of candidates for temporary adjunct positions for the 2025-2026 academic year. The adjunct faculty will teach courses that equip students with the skills to develop innovative digital media writing assignments and multimedia productions effectively.
Candidates should be able to successfully teach one or more of the following courses, face-to-face and online, during the day or evening hours:


  • CMS 2361 (Digital Convergence)

  • CMS 3308 (Journalism Language, Style, and Literacy)

  • CMS 3312 (News Editing)

  • CMS 3321 (Media Presentation)

  • CMS 3330 (Electronic News)

  • CMS 3341 (News Writing and Reporting)

  • CMS 3361 (Public Affairs Reporting)

  • CMS 3380 (Graphics and Layout)

Requirements and Preferences

Minimum Experience/Education

  • Master's Degree in communication and media studies (or a related field) from a regionally accredited college/university.
  • One year or more of teaching experience in skills-based courses like multimedia storytelling, news writing and reporting, digital media writing and mass media criticism at the undergraduate college level with students from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
  • The successful candidate must have demonstrable evidence of innovative and transformative instruction using multimedia applications in face-to-face and online courses.

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education

  • Two years or more teaching experience in mass communication and multiplatform journalism.
  • Working knowledge of the use and operation of emerging media software and technological applications.
  • Working knowledge of Canvas or similar learning management system.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, social justice, innovation, and collaboration in working with university colleagues and professionals in the discipline.

Teaching undergraduate communication and media studies courses for credit during day or evening hours. Responsible for classroom management and other duties as assigned by the department chair. Responsible for teaching, grading, and mentoring students. Timely submission of midterm and final grades is required. Instructor evaluation is required for reappointments.
