In the role of an Accountant I you will be working in our Finance and Administration Department.
Purpose
To perform functions that ensure the Controller's Office is successful in meeting the ongoing financial operation needs of MCW by providing timely and accurate deliverables related to fixed asset, cash deposits and tax-related activities.
Primary Functions
Collaborate with the Financial Operations team to:
- Perform accounting and reporting activities related to fixed assets.
- Maintain fixed asset subledger, including capitalization of fixed assets and asset maintenance activities.
- Assist with the fixed asset subledger monthly close.
- Address departmental inquiries and reporting, as needed.
- Perform rotating, perpetual physical inventories of fixed assets.
- Maintain calendar of inventories and scheduling with department custodians.
- Coordinate with department designees to perform the physical inventories, resolving exceptions, and documenting results.
- Participate and coordinate any fixed asset physical inventories performed by external auditors.
- Assist with tax-related accounting and reporting processes and activities by preparing workpapers and analysis, as assigned.
- Initiate disbursements by wire through the banking portal, as needed.
- Prepare the daily cash deposit, cash receipt applications, credit card processing and purchase order entry, as needed.
- Review of daily cash upload files for accuracy.
- Prepare petty cash processes, as needed.
- Prepare reconciliations of assigned accounts.
- Assist with the preparation of audit workpapers and footnote disclosures related to areas of responsibility.
- Complete surveys, special projects and special analyses, as assigned.
- Provide timely statistics on monthly activity for areas of responsibility.
Assist with various department projects including implementation of new accounting processes, ad hoc analytics and reporting, surveys, audit, and other tasks as identified.
Knowledge - Skills - Abilities
- Solid verbal and written communication skills and the ability to listen critically and interact with individuals at all levels both within and outside the organization.
- Strong technology skills, including Excel, Word, automated accounting software, business intelligence cubes and related report writing tools is required.
- Solid critical thinking, problem-solving and analytical skills and the ability to work independently to assess available information, draw conclusions and understandings, and present such conclusions effectively to other parties.
- High level of attention to detail and strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and stay focused on assigned priorities, work independently to meet internal and external deadlines and produce a consistently high-quality product.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute within a team environment.
- Possess superior customer service skills.
- Demonstrated ability to show initiative, exercise judgment and adapt to change.

Position Requirements:
Specifications
Minimum Required Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting
Minimum Required Experience: 0-2 years
Preferred Experience: Account reconciliation, journal entry preparation, nonprofit accounting
Field: Accounting
Certification: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or currently pursuing CPA preferred
