Are you a strategic thinker with a passion for student success and academic excellence? Winston-Salem State University is seeking a visionary leader to serve as our Vice Provost for Student Success-a key role responsible for shaping and advancing the student experience from recruitment to graduation.

About the Role
As the Vice Provost for Student Success, you will provide executive leadership and strategic direction for WSSU's student recruitment, enrollment, retention, and graduation efforts. You'll lead cross-functional teams and collaborate with university leadership to design holistic student success initiatives that support WSSU's mission and performance goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the university's student success units, including enrollment, advising, registration, and financial aid.
  • Design and execute a university-wide roadmap to improve recruitment and retention strategies.
  • Collaborate with university leadership to implement holistic academic support models.
  • Champion data-driven decision-making, strategic planning, and continuous improvement.
  • Support and lead professional development and change initiatives for staff.
  • Integrate innovative technology solutions to optimize the student experience.



What We're Looking For

  • Master's degree in a relevant field (Doctorate preferred)
  • At least 5 years of progressive leadership experience in higher education
  • Proven track record in academic advising, student support, and enrollment success
  • Strong skills in team leadership, data analysis, and cross-campus collaboration
  • Demonstrated ability to lead institutional change and improve student outcomes


Position Details


  • Title: Vice Provost for Student Success

  • Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8 AM-5 PM (occasional weekends during peak seasons)

  • Reports to: Provost

  • Location: On campus, Winston-Salem, NC

  • A Master's degree from an accredited university in a relevant field.
  • A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in higher education, including administration and supervision at the director level or higher.
  • Exhibited leadership in advisement and student services with executive-level experience and a proven track record of achievement and innovation in enhancing the higher education student experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in utilizing technology solutions to enhance student engagement and services.
  • Experience in assessing outcomes and continually improving student processes
