The SVP of Clinical Services is responsible for the development and implementation of a comprehensive approach to Boston Children's (BCH) clinical programs. Working through administrators in close collaboration with physician leaders, the SVP provides broad strategic direction and is responsible for full operational and budgetary accountability for several of BCH's clinical operations. The SVP also supports the work of the Hospital's clinical departments and their respective Foundations, assisting in their success and keeping them closely aligned with Hospital policy, strategy, and operations. The SVP has 10-15 direct reports, including two VPs of Clinical Services and one VP of the Department of Pediatrics. This role will directly oversee satellite operations, ambulatory access and Physician Assistant leadership, with responsibility for budget and revenue for an organization of over 11,000 employees.

This SVP, Clinical Services will:

  • Establish a solid management infrastructure for BCH clinical operations, collaborating with Chiefs of Services and their administrators. Lead the development and monitoring of operating goals and objectives.
  • Implement systems of accountability for measuring performance to improve efficiencies for clinical operations, including space utilization.
  • Work with Finance, IT, Digital Health, Health Affairs and Marketing to develop business models for new clinical initiatives.
  • Develop and execute explicit service criteria against which operational effectiveness can be measured.
  • Implement the strategic and business planning process for operating departments.
  • Play a key role in the optimization of the satellites in Waltham, Lexington, Peabody, North Dartmouth Martha Eliot Health Center and (Jan 2026) Needham. These sites now account for nearly half of the Hospital's patient care volume.
  • Work closely with department chairs and physicians in the development and implementation of clinical programs and support their academic programs in teaching and research.
  • Ensure that all operations are compliant with federal and state regulations.

  • Promote and enhance collaborative relationships with medical staff.
  • Evaluate existing systems, procedures, and protocols to ensure they are uniformly communicated, understood, and administered.
  • Participate in strategic planning and implementation with a focus on issue identification and resolution.

To qualify, you must have:

  • BA degree in healthcare administration, business, or other relevant discipline; MBA, MHA or MPHA preferred.
  • At least 10 years of leadership experience in clinical services at an academic medical center or major healthcare provider
  • Superb influencing skills; demonstrated capacity to be effective without a great deal of authority.
  • Strong management skills and ability to lead a large, cross functional, matrixed organization in a collaborative style that is decisive and results-oriented.
  • Strong emotional intelligence; Highly effective at building key relationships with senior leaders, physicians and front-line leaders via strong listening, humility and collaborative practices.
  • Ability to forge effective physician relationships, work with partners, and interact with communities.
  • Strong knowledge of financial management, including budgeting, financial reporting, and cost control.
  • Ability to think strategically and execute complex, long-term initiatives in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of healthcare industry including hospital operations, regulations and emerging trends.
  • Project management proficiency to oversee large-scale initiatives.
