Overview
Advanced Technologies and Laboratories (ATL), a Planned Systems International (PSI) company, is seeking a Technical Writer/Editor to support the WTC Health Program who shall perform document development, editorial review, and clearance activities for technical documents that communicate complex technical information, such as operational documentation, administrative material, technical guidance, policy statements, scientific papers, and special reports. Work with subject matter experts to obtain background information relevant to the work and ensure that final documents meet Program's standards. Apply knowledge of regulatory guidance and reference sources to the preparation of technical documents according to Program standards.
Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities
Develop a detailed working knowledge of the laws, regulations, policies, and administration of the WTC Health Program as relevant to the preparation of technical documents.
- Author complex written products that articulate, interpret, and explain different policies and procedures using plain language principles to communicate to a variety of audiences including health care providers, attorneys, beneficiaries, and external stakeholders.
- Participate in the content planning and production of written products that adhere to established timelines for document development and publication. Coordinate logistical matters related to document development with internal stakeholders.
- Develop procedures to track, manage, index, and synthesize various document types, including the WTC Health Program Administrative Manual and guide staff through the update process including plan development, proofreading, copyediting, approvals, and publication management.
- Work with subject matter experts across the Program to develop, review, and publish specialized content appropriate for the stated audience by researching, analyzing, and interpreting information on a variety of subject from divergent sources.
- Perform editorial review following established process including proofreading, formatting, copyediting, developmental editing, and content validation. Use advanced knowledge of grammar, writing, and editing principles to recommend major revisions or complete reorganization of materials as necessary.
- Align written products to be consistent with other related products, including blending materials from various sources into one unified product. Reconcile contradictions in information, analyze contributions for clarity, and ensure information is consistent across publications.
- Develop working knowledge of XML authoring principles for content management and new publication modalities that convert technical content into web publications.
- Support the document clearance process by ensuring that relevant information is converted into a form that meets publication needs and securing necessary review and approvals are obtained.
- Assist in document and records management by ensuring project information and records of changes are accurate and up to date in the official file record.
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelors or master's degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Public Health, Public Policy, or a relevant discipline.
- Minimum of 5+ years of healthcare-related writing experience; previous work in health communications or a background in health plan environment preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of and demonstrable experience with the following Software systems: Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel, SharePoint, and Outlook.
- Strong communicator with meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to interpret complex clinical information and apply to policy development.
- Ability to write at all levels including editing and proofreading, editing and technical writing.
- Strong project management and meeting facilitation skills.
- Understanding of and experience in using plain language principles.
- Ability to convey complex information in an appropriate fashion to audiences with different levels of expertise and knowledge.
- Demonstrated advanced skills in time management and managing multiple projects.
- Ability to organize and present materials according to a consistent standard regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.
