Description
BlueHalo has opportunities available for Student Research Assistants to support research at the Air Force Research Laboratories (AFRL) in Dayton, Ohio. The successful candidate will use a variety of scientific and/or engineering techniques to address research questions related to multiple disciplines. The candidate should demonstrate a driven interest in the STEM fields, especially through previous and planned course work. Work options include:
- 10 to 15 weeks, up to 40 hours/per week (school breaks, summers)
Requirements:
- This position is working within a government facility and requires US citizenship
- Must be working toward a bachelor's degree preferably in their second or third year
- Requires current enrollment in a STEM program focused in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, biology, chemistry, materials, or related field
- Relevant course work, required
- Related lab experience, preferred

Department Summaries:
- Biological & Nanoscale Technologies - Focusing research in synthetic biology, biomaterials, flexible devices, functional additive manufacturing, pathogen-cell interactions, biomarkers and real-time sensor development.
- Health & Performance Technologies - focusing on advancing marker discovery in air and biofluids, sensor development, evaluating microbiomes for health and performance, as well as toxicology, industrial hygiene, and high throughput screening for genetic and chemical exposure. Our scientists also specialize in synthetic biology, in biosensors and biocircuits, as well as directed energy bioeffects and aeromedical applications. An emerging specialty in data analytics and modeling contributes to advancing many of these fields.
- Materials & Processes - Conducting research in processing, characterization, and modeling of advanced structural alloys and intermetallics, light metallic alloys, ceramics, and ceramic matrix composites
- Photonics & Electronics Technologies - Conducting multi-disciplined R&D focused on electromagnetics including high-energy lasers, imaging systems, optical architectures, nonlinear optics, multiferroics and sensing.
