Role Description:

The Staff Attorney performs complex legal research, represents the Authority in court and other legal forums, provides legal advice to the various departments within the Authority, and assists with the coordination of the work of outside counsel.



Essential Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Performs complex legal research and writing.
  • Performs due diligence.
  • Analyzes and summarizes legal documents
  • Prepares legal opinions
  • Represents the Authority's interests in court and other forums.
  • Provides legal advice and guidance regarding regulatory and administrative matters to Authority staff and officials
  • Coordinates discovery requests.
  • Prepares correspondence.
  • Assists in the coordination of the work of outside counsel.
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned at the discretion of the Executive Vice-President, Legal Affairs and General Counsel.



Supervisory Responsibilities: N/A

Key Working Relationships: Internal: Authority-wide personnel. External: court and regulatory proceedings.

Required Skills & Qualifications



Required Experience:
One (1) to three (3) or more years of progressive legal experience.
Minimum Education Requirements:
Graduation from an accredited school of law.
Required Skills:
Strong analytical, planning, and organizational skills.
Strong skills and tact to deal effectively with competing priorities.
Strong legal research skills.
Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate legal issues.
Self-starter.
Capable of working in a fast-paced environment.
Utilizes personal computer and maintains a working knowledge of applicable software programs (i.e. word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, etc.).
Required Licenses & Certifications:
Must be a member of the District of Columbia Bar, or, eligible for waiver into the District of Columbia Bar within 12 months of the appointment, and prior trial experience is preferred but not required.
