Responsibilities

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Surveyor to perform GPS and total station layout for paving operations. This role is responsible for accurately utilizing machine control survey equipment to guide pavers and other equipment to ensure roadway construction aligns with project plans and specifications. The ideal candidate will have experience with construction layout, strong knowledge of civil drawings, strong knowledge of Trimble and/or similar software and operating systems, and proficiency with GPS and total station equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

    Provides layout for paving operations based on construction plans and digital design files
  • Operate GPS and robotic total station systems for precise layout
  • Verify horizontal and vertical alignment, grade, and slope as required for paving work
  • perform as-built surveys and upload models to machine control equipment
  • Collaborate closely with paving crews, site supervisors, and project engineers to ensure accuracy and efficiency
  • Interpret blueprints, grading plans, and CAD drawings to determine construction layout
  • Maintain accurate field notes, records, and data files of survey points and stake locations
  • Calibrate and maintain survey equipment to ensure optimal performance
  • Assist in resolving on-site layout issues and discrepancies as needed
  • Ensure all work complies with safety standards and company procedures


Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (associate degree or surveying coursework preferred)
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in construction surveying, preferably in paving or roadwork
  • Proficiency with GPS/machine control equipment (e.g., Trimble, Topcon) and data collectors
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, plans, and specifications
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to job sites
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and terrain
  • Experience with Trimble Business Center or similar software is preferred
  • Experience with drove survey technology and associated 3D models is a plus
  • May require occasional night work based
