Summary:

Under the guidance of the Director of Finance, reports the financial status by preparing and analyzing financial plans, forecasts, and reports.

Essential Duties:

To understand the business aspects of an operation and to achieve status as the business expert for the assigned areas of responsibility to include an understanding of an operation's/program's demand, market share, capacity, workload, utilization, standards, productivity, profitability, etc. In addition, to understand the value created when an operation/program consumes resources.

To identify the routine business/financial/statistical information necessary to optimally manage the business of an operation/program; to contribute to the design of the organization's business systems to assure the availability of this information; and to coordinate the definition of data elements within these systems through the use of codes, accounts, centers, etc.

To continuously, with Operations management, monitor and assess events occurring in the environment for their economic consequence; to interpret their economic impact upon the operation/program; and to collaborate with management in planning to optimize the position of the organization given these events.

To coordinate and to support management's process which develops the annual operating and capital budgets so that they are consistent with the organization's operating and clinical program plans; to ensure the disclosure of and to attest to the reasonableness of all assumptions; to support the derivation of complex calculations; and to formulate a recommendation to all levels of management on the efficiency of a proposed budget given current and historical performance and approved plans.

To analyze actual performance, to compare it with established budgets, plans, and standards; to report and interpret the results for all levels of management; and to formulate recommendations for action and the prioritization of business matters.

To facilitate timely communication between all levels of Operations management and the Finance function for: the business implications of all decisions and plans considered; decisions and plans made; status of all initiatives undergoing implementation; and the issues relating to business systems.

To consult with all levels of management responsible for policy concerning business operations as it relates to the attainment of objectives, the effectiveness of policies, organization structure, processes, procedures, and resource consumption; and to develop information on comparable operations in other organizations as a basis for comparison with internal operations.

To develop ideas for possible improvement initiatives; to collaborate with Operations and Finance management in developing plans for improved performance; to structure and analyze complex decisions (business plans, new programs, capital vs. operating, make vs. buy, quality costs, etc.) and business transactions; to formulate a recommendation for business decisions; to support the implementation of business initiatives; and to ensure the timely evaluation of all business decisions implemented.

To assist Operational managers with the presentation of business proposals.

To organize the business information of an operation/program (assumptions, contracts, plans, standards, variances, etc.) in a manner that supports the routine communication of issues (both present and potential) and facilitates routine financial projections of the current and prospective periods

To educate and advise management on the principles of accounting, business, and financial management; to develop management's understanding of the organization's business policies and procedures; and to develop management's capability to utilize information made available in routine and special reports.

To prepare work plans that support the completion of tasks.

To structure, prepare, and interpret schedules, analyses, and reports for use in the decision-making process.

To design, construct, analyze, and interpret financial models (multi-year proformas) that present the economic elements or considerations of a transaction, operation, or program.

To participate as a team member on assigned organizational teams and to contribute a perspective to the effort that considers the economic factors, issues, and opportunities.

Skills and Abilities Required:

The ability to use the fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of financial data/medical claim analysis is required.

Ability to work independently.

Must be skilled at manipulating and analyzing large claims and financial databases.

Must possess in-depth knowledge of provider reimbursement terms and concepts.

Must have a base knowledge of SAS or another programming language (SQL).

Must be advanced in the use of Microsoft Access and Microsoft Excel.

Forecasting and budgeting experience is critical.

Healthcare billing industry experience is a plus.

Communication - Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing to various audiences, particularly executive audiences.

Minimum Education and Experience:

A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Business Management, Economics, Finance, or a related field is required. A master's degree in Business or a related field (MBA, MS, MHA) and/or attainment of advanced certification (e.g., CPA, CMA, FHFMA) is desired.

A minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional experience in financial planning and analysis, budget management and modeling, and accounting and financial control systems is required.

Salary Range: $47.50/hour - $76.00/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.
