Physician Fellow - Individuals with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities

Lee Health Graduate Medical Education (GME) has an exciting opportunity for a Physician Fellow (PGY-4).

This fellowship is a year of training for a primary care physician who wishes to specialize in the care of Individuals with Developmental and Intellectual Disabilities (IDD). This specialty fellow will develop competence in and be responsible for the delivery of age and specialty appropriate medical care through the process of assessment, evaluation, diagnosing, treatment, and follow-up. The selected fellow will perform responsibilities in four areas of practice clinician, teacher, leadership and professional development. They will possess and grow in their ability to collaborate with colleagues and other professional disciplines to ensure safe, effective, efficient and value-added patient centered care and the achievement of desired patient outcomes in this vulnerable patient population. They will continuously monitor quality patient care through excellence in customer service and performance improvement that demonstrate positive outcomes in patient care. They will have opportunity to develop leadership skills at the residency program level and throughout Lee Health. The ideal candidate has a passion for providing care for individuals with intellectual disability and to lead a multidisciplinary team in providing wrap-around services for these patients and their families. They should possess excellent communication skills with patient, family, caregivers, multidisciplinary team members, medical staff members, and all employees. They should keep compassion, quality and safety in the forefront in the delivery of patient care, and leads the care team in the recognition and prevention of adverse events. They will participate/support the integrated continuum of care of patients within Lee Health/LPG.As part of their training, the fellow will also supervise family medicine residents in the GME Clinic and the Lee Memorial Hospital FSU inpatient medicine service, as well as in the pediatric/adult developmental clinic. While working with the developmental pediatrics and other clinical partners, they will perform responsibilities in a high-quality manner as a clinician, teacher, and leader.

An opportunity to continue working with GME and IDD within Lee Health and an employed, full time position after completion of the fellowship training may be a possibility for the right fellow!

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education:Graduate from an accredited Medical School and an ACGMC Accredited Residency; BC/BE

Experience:Experience providing health care in international, resource-poor settings, Demonstrated teaching

and leadership experience with strong leadership potential

Training:Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

License:Currently licensed or eligible in the State of Florida as a Physician

Other:Must meet credentialing requirements as established by the Lee Health Medical Staff Services Department. Communication and interpersonal skills, basic computer skills and customer service skills required. Excellent academic and clinical record, Commitment to care of underserved populations while developing leadership skills, Dedication to self-directed, lifelong learning
