The School of Arts and Sciences ( SAS) is the largest academic unit at Rutgers University and the center of the undergraduate experience on the Rutgers-New Brunswick campus and is comprised of 41 academic departments spanning the liberal arts. SAS offers more than 100 majors and minors across the life sciences, humanities, social and behavioral sciences, and mathematical and physical sciences with research centers and institutes across the school. Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Department Administrator for the School of Arts and Sciences - Dean's Office.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Provides and coordinates administrative functions and daily operations for the Office of Finance and Budget Planning.
  • Prioritizes and supervises work, resolves routine conflicts and issues, prepares and implements administrative guidelines and procedures, and provides oversight and facilitation.
  • Oversees various funds within the School of Arts and Sciences including state, operating, internal/external grants, research accounts, gift accounts, instructional budgets, etc.
  • Regularly reviews reports, working to ensure that accounts are properly expended and not overspent.
  • Analyzes data and prepares financial documents and reports for internal and external purposes conforming to generally accepted accounting principles and practices
  • Administers business transactions in relevant systems; including but not limited to cash transmittals, purchasing, expense management.
  • Schedules appointments; arranges and coordinates design and logistics for events and meetings.
  • Completes other work consistent with a broad understanding of the mission, vision, role, and goals of the Office of Finance and Budget Planning, and the tasks and responsibilities of the Department Administrator in the achievement of unit goals.

Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 or the applicable provisions of relevant collective negotiations agreements, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience

  • A bachelor's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of office administration, work organization, coordination, facilitation, bookkeeping, and/or report writing principles and practices.
  • A minimum of two years relevant experience in administrative function, good communication skills, and computer literacy.
