Job Summary

Under general supervision of the department chief administrative officer (CAO), provide a full range of transactional and analytical support for various programs and units affiliated with the department, including the Center for Population Biology (CPB), the Coastal and Marine Sciences Institute (CMSI) and the Population Biology Graduate Group (PBGG). Conduct analysis, administration, planning, outreach, recruitment, retention, finance, advising and problem solving. Work collaboratively with the CAO, Department Chair, and other leadership to achieve goals.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
  • Experience researching, analyzing, and interpreting data; skilled in contributing to solutions, forecasting the impact of potential actions, developing logical conclusions and recommending solutions.
  • Critical thinking and applied problem-solving skills to research and analyze complex information and problems related to Instructional support, payroll/personnel, and grant administration.
  • Knowledge and skill to work with personnel policies in a higher education setting or similar.
  • Excellent oral communication, customer service and interpersonal skills to communicate clearly, effectively, and professionally in person, by email, by phone and via video conferencing.
  • Skills, initiative and resourcefulness to understand, research, recognize and resolve general problems.
  • Mathematical and auditing skills to perform calculations and to review ledgers, calculate/verify employee pay and resolve discrepancies/problems.
  • Organizational skills to establish priorities and organize tasks to meet workload requirements and deadlines and to complete multiple, various tasks simultaneously with frequent interruptions, and maintain paper and electronic file systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with academic personnel policies and procedures.
  • Experience with UC Path, Cognos reports, AggieService, Banner, Aggie Enterprise or ability to learn new systems as required.
  • Knowledge and skills in finances to extract data from Aggie Enterprise reports and Cognos reports in order to prepare accurate budget reports.

Department Overview

The Department of Evolution and Ecology is a teaching/research unit within the College of Biological Sciences and the Center for Population Biology coordinates multidisciplinary academic activities in biological systems through ecological and evolutionary research and graduate training. The Population Biology Graduate Group houses 38students. There are over 200 personnel in EVE including faculty, Unit 18 lecturers, emeriti faculty, adjunct faculty, staff, postdocs, lecturers, GSR's, TA's, and student assistants, as well as fellowship, block grant and training grant appointees. The Center for Population Biology/PBGG has 45 faculty. The Coastal and Marine Sciences Institute is a unit with participants campus wide and at the Bodega Marine Lab.

Work Environment
