The Semiconductor Laser Diode Scientist will be a part of a new, cohesive group involved in the development of advanced laser modules and systems. A successful candidate will participate in all aspects of laser product development process: from conceptual design and lab prototyping, including epitaxial structure design, wafer processing, optical and electrical assembly and testing, to gathering and presentation of experimental test data, to development of robust, packaged laser diode chips, modules and systems for new product lines.

IPG will be able to offer relocation assistance to candidates within the United States that are willing to relocate to a commutable distance from our Oxford, MA offices.

Responsibilities:



  • Creative design, development, and testing of laser chips prototypes as well as modules and systems including optical layouts and components.
  • Development of measurement methodology, algorithms and protocols, measurement and characterization tests
  • Verification of performance of optoelectronic and optical components, setups, systems, and equipment
  • Operation and maintenance of a variety of optical, test and analytical instruments
  • Provide reports and training to internal personnel

Requirements

Required Experience:



  • PhD in Science or Engineering, preferably with major in Optoelectronics or Lasers Diodes, or MS with 3+ years of related industry experience at the R&D Engineer/Scientist level
  • Knowledge of semiconductor physics and laser diode theory
  • Experience in designing, processing, assembling and testing laser diodes
  • Experience with optical components and optical metrology, optical and electronic test equipment
  • Knowledge of computational tools (i.e. Comsol, Mathematica, MathCAD, MatLab)
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills


Preferred Experience:



  • Strong technical background in laser physics (thermal, electrical, optical, material science)
  • Statistical data analysis experience (i.e. R, Python)
  • Hands-on experience of epitaxial growth, wafer processing, laser diode assembly or characterization
