Role Summary

Rivian is seeking a Regulatory Analyst to support compliance with U.S. regulatory agencies, including the EPA, CARB, and NHTSA. This role involves compiling and reporting fuel economy and greenhouse gas (GHG) data, ensuring accuracy in regulatory filings, and supporting the trade of associated regulatory credits. The ideal candidate will have a strong analytical background, attention to detail, and experience with vehicle compliance reporting.


Responsibilities

  • Support with compilation and submission of fuel economy, GHG, and compliance reports to EPA, CARB, and NHTSA on a cyclical basis, and with development of in-house tools and to automate the related processes.
  • Assist in regulatory research and writing pertaining to fuel economy and energy and environmental regulation.
  • Assist with pre- and post-model year sales volume reports to reconcile actual vs. projected compliance obligations.
  • Support the generation, tracking, and trading of fuel economy and GHG credits with regulatory agencies.
  • Maintain detailed records of regulatory submissions, compliance actions, and financial transactions.
  • Analyze vehicle sales data to calculate fleet average fuel economy and emissions performance.
  • Analyze market data to support advocacy efforts
  • Develop and maintain forecasting models to predict compliance trends based on product mix and sales projections.
  • Identify risks and opportunities for optimizing fuel economy and emissions strategies.
  • Work closely with Homologation, Finance, and Legal teams to inform compliance strategies.
  • Support internal teams by providing regulatory insights on fuel economy and emissions performance.
  • Assist in responding to inquiries from regulatory agencies and internal stakeholders.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with test procedures for global markets, including but not limited to North America, Europe, and other markets.
  • Monitor the status of global regulations as they are updated and research new market entry testing requirements, including vehicle requirements, test equipment, facilities, and procedures.
  • Expected traveling within the US (up to 25%)

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Data Analytics, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in fuel economy, emissions compliance, or regulatory reporting (preferred).
  • Strong analytical and data management skills, including proficiency in Excel, SQL, python or similar tools.
  • Familiarity with EPA, CARB, and NHTSA fuel economy and emissions regulations.
  • Understanding of Industry Standards (such as SAE) and Regulations (US, EU, and China) regarding vehicle fuel economy and emissions testing and labeling requirements.
  • Deep curiosity to understand the product and how the regulations may be applied.
  • Experience with formal requirement management tools (Confluence, Jira, and Design Verification Plan and Report, etc.) preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships across the Rivian organization as well as with external parties.
  • Experience automating manual data collation and transformation processes (preferred)
  • Familiarity with global fuel economy regulations, particularly reporting requirements in North America (preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize regulatory requirements into actionable tasks needed for compliance (preferred)

Pay Disclosure

Salary Range for Palo Alto, CA based applicants: $94,000 - $118,000 annually (Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location and other factors permitted by law)

Salary Range for Irvine, CA based applicants: $87,000 - $109,000 annually (Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location and other factors permitted by law)

Benefits Summary: Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment, and Rivian covers most of the premiums.
