Payroll Specialist (Temp-to-Hire) - Ultimate Kronos Group/UKG Experience Required

Job Type: Temp-to-Hire

Schedule: Full-Time, Onsite Monday-Friday

Overview:

Our client is seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to join their team on a temp-to-hire basis. This role is ideal for a payroll professional who has hands-on experience with UKG (Ultimate Kronos Group) and is comfortable managing payroll for approximately 140 employees across hourly, salaried, and contract classifications.

You will play a key role in ensuring payroll is accurate, timely, and compliant, while partnering closely with HR and Finance teams.

Key Responsibilities:




  • Process bi-weekly payroll in UKG for 140 employees



  • Maintain and audit employee data in the system (timekeeping, pay rates, deductions, tax setup)



  • Respond to payroll-related questions and resolve discrepancies



  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws



  • Prepare and reconcile payroll reports for accounting and audits



  • Coordinate with HR on onboarding/offboarding, benefits deductions, and leave tracking



  • Process year-end tax forms (e.g., W-2s) and handle agency notices as needed




Requirements:




  • 2+ years of payroll processing experience, with recent hands-on UKG experience



  • Solid knowledge of payroll compliance and wage/hour laws



  • Excellent attention to detail and confidentiality



  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills



  • Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office



  • Experience with timekeeping systems




Preferred Qualifications:




  • Payroll experience in a government contractor or highly regulated industry



  • Knowledge of benefits deductions, 401(k) plans, and leave accruals



  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Human Resources, or related field
