Position Summary:
The Data Modeler is a member of the Business
Intelligence team within the Information Services & Technology division of
NJIT. NJIT is using Snowflake as the core database of the platform. There is a
Staging, Curated and Reporting layer in Snowflake. The 'middle' Curated layer is a normalized
detailed structure gleaning data from the Staging data. NJIT has a robust, flexible data model
incorporating this structure that the candidate in this position is expected to
work with to meet requirements and NJIT specific standards. This individual is expected to also
participate and contribute to the areas of data engineering, information
management and data governance. The successful candidate will keep abreast of
emerging technology trends and take an active interest in professional
development to ensure their skills stay current. All duties will need to be
performed in accordance with university policies, procedures and core values.

Essential Functions:
-Works with all stakeholders to design, develop and implement key components for NJIT's new analytics platform which includes business intelligence, analytical, data science and integration solutions.
-Develops a detailed logical and physical model in the DB Schema Data Modeling tool.
-Generates DDL of the database and communication to the requisite parties.
-Builds basic ELT jobs using the Data Integration tool.
-Incorporation and leveraging of existing NJIT models, databases and documents to flesh out the columns and details.
-Translates requirements into actionable key performance indicators with associated metrics and validate the model with NJIT functional and technical staff.
-Creates documentation to supplement the model in coordination with NJIT Data Governance and Stewardship teams on definitions, descriptions and overall structure.
-Makes necessary recommendations on approaches and solutions for integration to and from the curated layer based on the model.
-Assists developers to understand and use data models that organize the data into tables and accounts for access.

Prerequisite Qualifications:
-2-4 years experience with Data Modeling (Dimensional, Normalized, Key-value pair) solutions employing best practices.
-Experience with integration and data products such as Matillion and Snowflake.Experience with Cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, Google are desired.
-Proficiency in data architecture.
-Experience with defining a data strategy and data migration projects.
-Experience architecting data lakes, understanding big data, dimensional data modeling, and data loading strategies, including implementing ETL/ELT solutions.
-Demonstrated experience with data quality initiatives, initiating data audits, and data intake process changes.
-Experience delivering work with Agile/Scrum practices & software release cycle.
-At
the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be
accepted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the
university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically
preparing the candidate for success in the position.

Preferred Qualifications:
-A strong understanding of business and technical aspects of information technology at an academic and research-intensive university.
-Experience leveraging the DbSchema tool.

Salary Information:
In compliance with the NJ Pay Transparency Law, the negotiated annual salary range for this position is $65,522.00-$122,474.00 (USD). NJIT considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses or other items.
