General Summary of Position
Transport of patients, medical equipment, and patient-related items to their destinations, enabling physicians, nurses, technicians, and therapists to perform their duties in an effective manner.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Transport patients between departments, and to and from patient care areas via wheelchair,
    stretcher, bed, and other transport equipment.
  • Responds to transport requests with a sense of urgency, meeting time delivery goals.
  • Ensures patient safety by following established procedures and using only approved equipment.
  • Works closely with hospital staff and openly communicates and problem solves to ensure client and
    patient needs are met.
  • Handle medical equipment safely, including IV pumps/poles, oxygen tanks, PCA pumps, chest tubes,
    catheters, and traction while transporting patients.
  • Maintain positive and professional relationships with patients.
  • Ensures timely response to all patient and patient-related transportation requests and utilizes
    appropriate transport dispatching system in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Reports faulty equipment to the supervisor for repair right away.
  • Adheres to all policies, procedures, and standards established by all regulatory agencies including,
    but not limited to, Federal, State, Joint Commission, OSHA, and CDC.
  • Actively participates in orientation and training activities
  • Courteously answers phone calls and takes accurate messages.
  • Adheres to all Human Resource policies and procedures including those listed in the Employee
    Handbook and established by the Hospital and Department.
  • Perform duties in a self-directed manner with minimal supervision or direction.
  • Contributes to cohesive group relationships; uses open communication to identify and resolve problems in and between departments.
  • Make suggestions for improvement to procedures or innovations to enhance patient service.
  • Participate in inter and intra departmental performance improvement teams as directed.


  • Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • High School Diploma or GED preferred


    Licenses and Certifications

    • CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required
    • Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.


    This position has a hiring range of $17.50 - $28.73
