Responsible for directing and managing the mechanical engineering staff and facilities. Direct and coordinate design, fabrication, operation, testing, validation and production of products for high volume manufacturing. Build, implement and validate manufacturing of products that maintain a set of high quality standards. Leading a team of technical engineers to develop telecommunications equipment that can be manufactured by a variety of manufacturing partners. Duties include project planning, managing budgets, CAD design, conducting quality analysis and presenting development results to cross collaborative teams and executive leadership.

The Director of Mechanical Engineering will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of mechanical engineering design for new projects from concept, design, prototyping, testing, reviewing work and manufacturing process development. They will be a key leader in cross-functional coordination with internal teams and overseas manufacturing partners, defining process development and documentation to drive continuous improvement of manufacturing and ensure consistency and quality of product that is manufactured in tens of millions. They will oversee designated operations which may include, but not limited to creating DFM CAD, FEA analysis, tolerance analysis, PCB fitment analysis, project scheduling and tracking, working directly and managing overseas tooling manufactures to ensure and validate quality and consistency.

In addition to the general duties and responsibilities described below, requirements specific to this role include:

  • A comprehensive understanding of CAD and FEA application Solidworks
  • Advanced knowledge of FEA - Structural, Thermal, Motion and Vibration including testing, verification and corrective action
  • Comprehensive understanding of applicable regulations regarding safety of consumer electronics, prototyping via SLA, FDM, SLS, CAM and Polyjet
  • Comprehensive understanding of manufacturing tolerances and qualification, including close tolerance injection molded plastics, two shot molding, over-molding, sheet metal and cast metal parts
  • In-depth knowledge of
    • development of products which contain a Printed Circuit Board
    • locating qualified Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 manufacturing vendors
    • knowledge of Industrial Design and collaborating with cross functional organizations

  • Align team to departmental defaults such as instrumentation, universal design, brand and experience consistency as well as advocate for deviations from defaults where beneficial to the team.
  • Build, maintain, and iteratively improve the cross-functional and lean team with a diverse set of roles that is designed to efficiently deliver outcomes.
  • Develop processes for cross-functional skills development within team.
  • Uphold team operating rhythm to enable data-driven iterative improvement. Ensure that the team is changing and iterating as a cohesive, inclusive unit.
  • Develop and operationalize a communication plan that ensures alignment with internal and external teams.
  • Create routine communications for executive consumption regarding roadmap delivery, platform/feature quality and team performance

  • Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

The base pay for this position generally is between $138,800.00 and $246,400.00. The actual compensation offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. We comply with local wage minimums and also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of other incentive-based compensation such as bonuses.
