Position Summary
The UNC Center for Women's Mood Disorders ( CWMD) is seeking an open rank, tenure-track researcher to advance our mission of scientific discovery in the neuroendocrinology of women's mood disorders. The CWMD is part of the Psychiatry Department in the UNC School of Medicine. The Department of Psychiatry provides an outstanding environment for groundbreaking basic, translational, and clinical research, clinical care, career development, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The CWMD conducts research on the biological basis of reproductive mood disorders and the influence of reproductive transitions (i.e., puberty, menstrual cycle, pregnancy and the postpartum, and the transition to menopause) on psychopathology.

The CWMD has two overarching goals: 1) to identify the neurobiological etiology of depression associated with reproductive transitions, and 2) to develop and improve access to interventions to prevent and treat these symptoms. We recruit and retain successful early-stage investigators ( ESI) who are passionate about improving the lives of women and girls. We have access to some existing datasets that we use to support fellows and ESI, which can be leveraged for manuscripts and pilot data for extramural grant applications. Funding is available to support initial activities.

The successful applicant will have a demonstrated track record of outstanding accomplishment commensurate with their level of seniority and great potential to improve the lives of women and girls through the work of the institute. The faculty member hired will be expected to lead externally funded clinical research projects within the CWMD focused on the hormonal drivers of affective dysregulation during the menstrual cycle and puberty, develop community partnerships, design and execute research studies, perform data analysis, write manuscripts, and publish results. The faculty member hired will also be expected to engage collaboratively with other researchers and clinicians in the CWMD and support the educational mission by training graduate students, interns, and fellows.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
The applicant must have a PhD in Neuroscience or equivalent from an accredited college or university. Evidence of excellence in teaching, current extramural grant funding, collaborative science, and strong oral and written communication skills are required.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Candidates should have a solid record of scholarly productivity, as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications, fellowship awards, and participation in national and international meetings. We welcome candidates whose experience in teaching, research, and service has prepared them to contribute to UNC-Chapel Hill's commitment to excellence.
