Position Description:

POSITION PURPOSE

Under general direction of the Manager in the Core facility, assist with daily laboratory duties to aid in the timely completion of multiple research and clinical projects both on and off campus.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  1. Assist with laboratory services to suit the research and clinical needs of samples or projects on and off campus.
  2. Assist with laboratory needs such as organization, cleaning, reagent disposal and other operational related duties.
  3. Assist with histochemical staining as needed and according to specifications under histotechnologist supervision. This will include histochemical staining techniques after significant training.
  4. Operate, calibrate, decontaminate, and perform maintenance verification on all histology core equipment including slide printers, H&E stainers, drying ovens, tissue processors and coverslippers.
  5. Track reagent and consumable inventory as necessary.
  6. Prepare for College of American Pathologist (CAP) inspection.
  7. Assist with answering phones, iLAB fluency, and aiding project communication.
  8. Sample preparation including slide printing, cassette labeling, minor grossing.
  9. Software requisition editing/receiving/send out/documentation of ongoing and completed projects.
  10. Scanning research documentation into digital file for archiving purposes.
  11. Regularly attend safety meetings and perform laboratory inspections at the MCW laboratory locations.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

Working knowledge of basic histology and laboratory work. Demonstrates basic computer skills. Ability to demonstrate cooperation, courtesy and consideration when working with others. Strong critical thinking, problem solving and attentiveness to detail required. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to distinguish colors visually.



Preferred Schedule:




M-F 8am to 4:30



Position Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS

Appropriate experience may be substituted on equivalent basis

Education: Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology or related field is required.
Experience: 1-2 years of relevant general laboratory experience. Experience with basic histology is preferred although not required. Certifications/Licenses: Although not required, individual seeking career in Histology field is desirable. HT/HTL eligibility after training.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Manual Dexterity: Work requires definite skilled and accurate physical operations requiring some closely coordinated performance.

Physical Effort: Work requires considerable variety of fairly steady active

physical exertion with some and/or continuous standing or

walking and repetitive motion.

Working Conditions: Some exposure to definitely disagreeable features.

Hazards: Injury may require doctor's care. Time lost of part of a day may be to receive medical treatment.
