Senior Manager, Operational Technology

Manage the Operational Technology (OT) Services (control/administration) day-to-day functions and technical staff. Coordinate the design, installation, and connectivity of ICS systems to ensure the stable operation of the organization's manufacturing facilities. This includes developing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing new and existing OT/IT hardware, software, and communication links. Provide input into planning and road mapping the ICS network and systems infrastructure, provide direction to complete network and server activities and projects, and provide timely resolution of connectivity and performance problems. Provide direct people management of operational technology professionals.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Participate in the creation of organizational objectives for the team by working closely with senior leadership
  • Create personal developmental objectives and plans working closely with individual team members
  • Participate in the creation and management of budget plans for the team by working closely with senior leadership
  • Guide supervisors and/or senior members of the team
  • Oversee and help deploy Converged Plantwide Ethernet (CPwE) standards in various DFA manufacturing facilities
  • Develop a reference architecture standard on which to rapidly deploy secure, standardized, error-free IACS networks and systems
  • Provide considerations for the use and deployment of common enterprise technology and tools whenever appropriate
  • Raise IT awareness of the requirements of IACS
  • Raise awareness about OT security maturity models within the cooperative and stakeholders
  • Coordinate and supervise activities and lead the OT team to meet core business goals and objectives
  • Work cross-functionally with the design, engineering, and operations teams to establish the design standards upon which DFA's facilities Industrial Controls Environments will operate
  • Ensure compliance through regular reviews of evidence collection and data testing during scheduled procedures
  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of compliance requirements for plant operations (USDA, GMP, SQF, etc.)
  • Ensure the reliable and secure functioning of the SCADA systems on new and existing generating facilities
  • Have holistic responsibility for portfolio's including but not limited to

    • establishing the architecture for network, security, systems, and workstations
    • managing and advancing the selection and integration of data management tools
    • managing and supporting the Industrial Controls converged infrastructure


  • Implement controls to monitor, measure compliance, and increase the maturity of controls for OT systems
  • Participate in departmental management budget development and monitoring for expense and capital cost control
  • Manage vendor and contract relationships pertaining to the OT Team, ensuring the company receives maximum benefit and value
  • Work with the business in value stream mapping to ensure focus on critical business initiatives
  • Create, plan, and present short-term and long-term team road maps for entire enterprise Industrial Controls Environment to IT and senior leadership.
  • Ensure focus of improvement is automated, orchestrated, and autonomic where possible
  • Implement industry best practices and provide audit finding in short comings to be presented to Director of Operational Technology and senior IT leadership
  • Implement IT security awareness training and knowledge sharing
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities and ensures company policies and procedures are followed
  • Propose changes to existing policies and procedures to ensure operating efficiency and regulatory compliance
  • Ensure that all reporting tools and reports are created in a timely and accurate manner
  • Ensure the recoverability of OT network systems in the event of disaster or discontinuation of technical services
  • Mentor OT team senior members
  • Manage OT staff to include hiring, performance management, salary administration, career development, motivation, and team building.

Minimum Requirements:

Education and Experience



  • Bachelor's degree in telecommunications, computer science, information technology, or business administration preferred
  • 9+ years of experience in IT network design, deployment, management, including experience with network and server optimization in support of application performance and experience installing network cabling and patching ICS Systems
  • Experience in designing, deploying and managing VMWare vSphere environments
  • Experience with deploying, managing, and maintaining multiple hyperconverged server clusters
  • Knowledge and experience in cloud infrastructure (esp. Microsoft Azure)
  • Hands-on experience in infrastructure automation tools (esp. Terraform)
  • Hands-on experience automation and scripting tools (esp. Python, Ansible)
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, team/project management leadership, or staff management experience
  • In-depth technical knowledge of skills associated with IT/OT integration, Rockwell/Cisco CPwE, Purdue ICS model, and with broad knowledge of the IT organization
  • Professional-level Cisco Certification or equivalent knowledge

  • Knowledge and understanding of system flow charts, data processing concepts, and telecommunications principles

  • Able to communicate and translate complex technical topics into easy-to-understand concepts
  • Able to accurately articulate the requirements and priorities of both IT and OT stakeholders

  • Able to perform general mathematical calculations for the purpose of creating needs assessments, budgets, etc.
  • Able to conduct research into networking issues and products as required
  • Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment and make sound decisions in emergency situations
  • Able to present ideas in a professional manner
  • Able to demonstrate leadership qualities as a self-starter
  • Able to work with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities

  • Able to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English
