The Department

Life Technology Solutions (LTS) is a division of Milliman, Inc., one of the largest actuarial consulting firms in the world. Our delivery teams are distributed across 3 continents and are organized to carry out all types of development, testing and implementation activities across the software development cycle for our cloud-based applications.

The Role

Responsible for the US LTS software engineers working on the IntegrateTM product through a combination of direct leadership, coaching, hands-on engineering and collaboration with Platform Engineering, Operations, QA and UK LTS Software Engineering. They drive the definition and adoption of a Milliman software engineering strategy and capability that aligns with and contributes to Milliman business and technology strategy. Working across several globally distributed teams, they help align the Product Engineering teams (verticals) to deliver a high-quality platform built on a strong foundation of cloud/hosted infrastructure.

They also provide internal consulting to coach, influence, and drive the onboarding of software engineering capabilities, and collaborate with Business Owners and senior leadership to formulate value-based roadmaps, opportunities for evolutionary adoption, and to better understand IntegrateTM consumer's needs.

Your Responsibilities:



  • Line management of US Senior technologists (Senior Software Engineers, Architects and Staff Engineers) in LTS Software Engineering.
  • Drive and promote the strategy, architecture, and engineering of IntegrateTM capabilities balancing a future-based strategic vision with short to medium term delivery goals and outcomes.
  • Rely on strong communication skills to articulate the benefit of the Technology strategy and to ensure stakeholders are aware of and aligned to the vision, direction, and value of IntegrateTM. In coaching and supporting the wider technical communities you help validate technical expectations of solutions, manage technology risk, and communicate implications of technology decisions.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Engineering, Head of Platform and Head of Software Engineering (UK) formulate, drive, and promote a strategic vision for engineering and Milliman platform with a strong focus on enabling speed, scale, and quality in Milliman engineering delivery teams. .
  • Drive Milliman-wide thought leadership for engineering and architectural practices.
  • Demonstrate hands on engineering skills.
  • Identify, articulate, and manage implication and risks of technology solutions and decisions.
  • Work with key stakeholders to align LTS products/solutions and platform capabilities in an evolutionary, incremental, and iterative manner.
  • Support a global alignment of Software Engineering across LTS.

Job Knowledge, Experience Skills

Job Knowledge Required:



  • Ability to understand the diverse technology landscape and products within Milliman LTS to effectively identify candidates for improvements to LTS products, solutions and ways of working.
  • Understand how to leverage infrastructure and cloud services as an input to great software solutions.
  • Strong expertise of current and emerging technologies and their potential applications to Milliman.
  • Strong understanding of modern cloud technologies such as Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services or Google Cloud.


Experience and Soft Skills Required:



  • Extensive experience in software engineering including modern practices, tooling, and methods.
  • Ability to always communicate positively and confidently, internally, and externally relevant, valuable information.

Location

The expected application deadline for this job is July 31, 2025.

It is preferred that candidates work on-site at our Chicago, IL office. Remote candidates will be considered.

Compensation

The overall salary range for this role is $147,400 - $291,840. For candidates residing in:



  • Alaska, California, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington, or the District of Columbia the salary range is $162,140 - $267,520.
  • New York City, Newark, San Jose, or San Francisco the salary range is $176,880 - $291,840.
  • All other locations the salary range is $147,400 - $243,200.


A combination of factors will be considered, including, but not limited to, education, relevant work experience, qualifications, skills, certifications, etc.
