Job Description

Family Health Centers of San Diego (FHCSD) is looking for an experienced nurse manager to train new nurses and supervise existing staff. The nurse manager sets the standard of care in a healthcare facility, manages assigned funds for the department, and responds to complaints from patients.

To be successful as a nurse manager you must have patience when training new staff.

Under the supervision of the Clinic Director and guidance of the Nursing Manager provides operational management of the nursing services at the Logan Heights Family Health Center in support to all physicians and providers in order to maximize access for patients and facilitate the delivery of prompt, quality health care.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assists providers in meeting productivity standards through development of efficient patient flow systems that ensure optimal patient flow with patients processed efficiently and walk-ins triaged expediently.

  • In cooperation with LHFHC Charge Nurses, coordinates orientation and training of all nursing personnel at the Logan Heights Family Health Center.

  • Assists Clinic Director, LVN Charge Nurses and/or Nursing Director in the development of training for the nursing staff to include patient education, sharpening of nursing skills, emergency procedures, etc.

  • Works with LHFHC Charge Nurses ensuring that patients receive quality care in an effective and timely manner.

  • Ensures nursing staff provide appropriate and complete documentation in all patient records and in all provider/nurse communications.

  • Works with LHFHC Charge Nurses ensuring that the crash cart/crash box is checked per policy and that medications and supplies are checked monthly for expiration.

  • Remains in close contact with Clinic Director and/or Nursing Director for information exchange, problem resolution, scheduling, staffing and other related issues.

  • Participates with management in organizational long-term planning and the development of strategic initiatives.

  • Provides effective counseling/guidance to employees. Administers corrective action promptly when needed. Fosters an environment that promotes development and professional growth of employees. Maximizes output from subordinates through an effective, supportive management style.

  • Provides leadership and nurse supervision to Charge and Assistant Charge Nurses at the LHFHC.

  • Ensures all regulatory standards are met or exceeded and adhered to on an on-going basis (JCAHO, CLIA, DHS - Licensing & Certification, OSHA, etc.)

  • Works with LHFHC Charge Nurses performing orientation and annual performance evaluations.

  • Works with LHFHC Charge Nurses ensuring that Mock Codes are conducted according to the annual calendar.

  • Works with LHFHC Charge Nurses ensuring that logs are completed appropriately, including temperature logs, autoclave logs, etc.

  • Works cooperatively with other team members in activities related to ensuring health center implementation of all quality concepts, including infection control program, patient satisfaction, etc.

  • Recruits, trains, develops, engages and retains an accountable workforce.

  • Ensures applicable regulatory and department standards are adhered to on an on-going basis (The Joint Commission, OSHA, etc.).

  • Leads, educates, coaches and mentors others on LEAN continuous process improvement philosophy, tools and application to accomplish organizational goals.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Current California RN license required.

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) required.

  • Medical Assistant diploma from an approved course. Current American Heart Association healthcare provider CPR (BLS), or Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Advanced Trauma Life Support, or Advance Resuscitation Training required.

  • RN/BSN degree.

  • Ability and means to travel as needed in a timely manner within San Diego County, to locations that may have limited access to public transportation; proof of liability and property damage insurance on vehicle used is required.
    DRIVER REQUIREMENTS: Licensed for a minimum of 3 years; No more than 2 violations and/or accidents within 3 years; No vehicle related suspensions/reinstatements; No DUI, reckless or felony Driving with 7 years

Experience/Specialized skills

  • Cultural and linguistic sensitivity to populations served.

  • At least three years of progressively responsible positions as a supervisor.

  • 3-years minimum experience in community-based clinics, out-patient medical clinics, or work in a hospital setting with indigent care patients

  • Knowledge of supervisory practices and techniques, including performance management and employee development.

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Successful track record of leading and driving positive change through others.

$114,400.00 - $146,441.67

If you are hired at Family Health Centers of San Diego, your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, jurisdictional requirements, skills, education, and/or experience. In addition to these factors - we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is what we reasonably expect to pay for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth.
