Position Summary Information


Primary Purpose
Reporting to the Dean, as a member of the School of Health Sciences' leadership team, The Director of Simulation and Health Technology provides critical leadership in the development and implementation of the School of Health Sciences' strategic health plan to continue to be an innovative school at the front end of cutting-edge education in healthcare. The Director of Simulation and Health Technology leads the technology needs of the school, overseeing the day-to-day support of health education in all SHS departments, including simulations, clinical training, evaluations, and administrative technology. The Director of Simulation and Health Technology collaborates with Pacific Technology in designing and implementing the institutional strategic technology plan, as well as new technologies and technical policies to improve student, staff, and faculty workflows and processes.
Essential Functions

  • Provides strategic leadership in directing, designing, and implementing the school's health science technology, information systems, infrastructure, and support operations across all three campuses.
  • Oversees the effective evaluation, testing, and deployment of changes, and is responsible for the asset management of the School of Health Sciences' technology infrastructure.
  • Directs the SHS technology team in the setup, configuration, troubleshooting, upgrading, and training of learning and health technologies services that take into account service level targets, risk, resource capacity, and security.
  • Develops and maintains industry-leading service levels in the delivery of health technology infrastructure services by fostering and driving a culture of quality, innovation, and accountability.
  • Provides strategic leadership for effective ongoing day-to-day support for health technology, simulation systems, servers, desktops, laptops, printers, and other systems as applicable.
  • Conducts staff skillset assessments, creates and manages staff development plans, and coordinates training requirements.
  • Provides strategic leadership in managing SHS customer support for health and simulations technology needs and problem resolution. Ensures exceptional customer focused delivery of academic, clinical, and administrative technology services to the SHS by leading cross-functional teams composed of Pacific Technology (network, systems, application, help desk, telecommunication, web development personnel) and the SHS Technology Support Team.
  • Oversees technical support and training in health technology simulation systems for faculty and staff. Maintains proficiency in the use and operation of different simulation technologies ranging from (but not limited to) anatomic models/task trainers to screen-based simulations to full body patient simulators.
  • Develops, manages, and reports on the technology budget for the school.
  • Facilitates processes to better integrate and align multi-campus efforts, activities, services, and efficiencies.
  • Ensures all new health and simulations technology and AV projects are designed and implemented to meet the specific needs of the School while maintaining University standards
  • Oversees the coordination of and supports teaching needs, including simulation labs, remote and hybrid class environments, objective structured clinical experiences, and various assistive technologies.
  • Provides expertise to program directors and faculty by researching new and innovative technologies while meeting University security standards and ensuring systems are integrated following best practices for the program and the School.
  • Works collaboratively with the Director of Interprofessional Education (IPE) to support IPE technology and events across all three campuses.
  • Works in partnership with CIO, CISO, General Council, and executive leadership of health programs, to ensure all systems meet HIPPA and FERPA standards in the design and implementation of audit, risk assessment, and regulatory health compliance practices for Technology.
  • In partnership with the School of Health Sciences Business Office and Pacific Technology, negotiates with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to procure technology & services, and ensures all appropriate vendor contracts serve the University's best interests and that suppliers meet their contractual requirements.
  • Implements metrics and targets to measure progress in executing strategy and building organizational capacity in collaboration with Pacific Technology executive leadership and across multiple campuses.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by the Dean of the School

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience (Two (2) years of full-time experience in IT/AV/health technology support is equal to one (1) year of completed post-high school education coursework).
  • Five years of experience in medical/health simulation systems (Laerdal, Simulation IQ)
  • Five years of experience in higher education environment supporting health-related programs.
  • Five years of experience in AV Support and Implementation.
  • Two years of experience overseeing a technology team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified in Laerdal Advanced Care and Maintenance for one or more simulators.
  • Experience in education technology, instructional design, or related field.
  • Experience in audio for live events.
  • Experience in video production.
  • Experience setting up and running live streaming events.
  • Five years of experience in Customer Service.
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
  • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

Hiring Range $86,273 - $101,362. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
