Job Description

Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) is seeking a Strategic Marketing & Partnerships Coordinator to support the Strategic Hub for Innovation and Partnerships (SHIP). This full-time, on-site role focuses on enhancing industry and non-traditional funder engagement by managing SHIP's CRM system, developing digital content, and supporting Principal Investigators (PIs) - with tools and insights for collaboration. The ideal candidate is a strategic communicator with strong digital fluency and a proven ability to create engaging websites and content tailored to technical or innovation-focused audiences. This role plays a vital part in advancing WHOI's mission by expanding its visibility and partnerships beyond traditional government funding, unlocking new opportunities in the commercial, industrial, and non-federal government sectors.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop and manage SHIP's digital portal and internal resource hub using WordPress or similar platforms.

  • Support WHOI researchers by promoting SHIP's tools and services internally through an internal resource center.

  • Create and maintain content tailored to industry audiences, such as case studies, capability briefs, and event promotions.

  • Execute digital marketing strategies and oversee SHIP's presence across web, newsletter, and social media platforms.

  • Conduct market research and track trends in ocean technology, offshore energy, climate resilience, and marine robotics and related fields consistent with WHOI's mission and research.

  • Build and maintain industry partner profiles and opportunity maps.

  • Serve as SHIP's CRM administrator: manage data, dashboards, and reporting to support strategic decision-making.

  • Provide CRM training and ensure best practices across SHIP users.

  • Support WHOI researchers by promoting SHIP's tools and services internally.

  • Assist in planning and promoting events such as forums, pitch sessions, and industry symposia.

  • Align communications and outreach with SHIP's broader engagement and business development goals.

MINIMAL QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., communications, business, science, or technology) and 5+ years of experience in communications, business development, or digital marketing.

  • Proficiency with CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce, HubSpot), WordPress, and data tools (e.g., Excel, Power BI, Tableau).

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical material into compelling narratives.

  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.

  • Must be available to work on-site at WHOI's Woods Hole, MA campus; occasional travel may be required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience developing internal resource hubs or digital training platforms.

  • Visual communication or graphic design skills.

  • Experience in a research institution or innovation ecosystem.

  • Working knowledge of ocean science and commercial applications of technology development.
