About the Job

General Statement of Responsibilities:

Provide mental health care to eligible students of the University of Minnesota, including diagnosis, treatment and referral for additional services. Promote patient well being. Work closely with and under the supervision of a psychiatrist and collaborate with other mental health professionals and primary health care providers. Adhere to the protocols established for Boynton Health and practice parameters defined by the state of MN for nurse practitioners or physician assistants.

Pay Range: $90,000 for a .80 FTE 10-month appointment or $108,000 for a 1.00 FTE 10-month appointment, depending on education/qualifications/experience

Detailed Job Responsibilities:

  • The scope of practice for this position may include but is not limited to the following:
  • Diagnose and treat mental health conditions.
  • Provide urgent crisis counseling.
  • Take psychiatric medical histories.
  • Order appropriate lab tests and diagnostic tests; interpret findings.
  • Manage psychiatric medications consistent with best practices and existing Boynton guidelines.
  • Respond to patient phone and portal communications.
  • Educate patients about the diagnosis and treatment of their psychiatric and medical conditions, appropriate self-care and use of the health care system.
  • Complete medical records in an accurate, thorough, and timely fashion.
  • Provide needed information when patients are referred to another health care provider.
  • Develop a plan of care based on an assessment of the psychological, emotional, societal, physical, cultural, and environmental needs of the client.
  • Consult, refer and collaborate with other disciplines involved in the delivery of total patient care.
  • Utilize the resources of the University community and surrounding area community.
  • Demonstrate evidence of continuing professional growth by involvement in peer review and the review of protocols and procedures; participate in continuing education.
  • Develop and present (as needed) programs, seminars, etc. related to student and community mental health in and for Boynton Health and the University Community.
  • Provide consultative services as requested by various departments or faculty and staff within the University community.
  • Participate in regular case consultation with MHC peers and team meetings.
  • Serve on operational committees of Boynton, the MHC or the U of MN at the request of the Director of the Clinic.
  • Promote a safe, equitable, and respectful environment in which concerns can be addressed effectively.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • An advanced degree plus four years of experience, or a terminal degree plus one year of experience
  • Minimum of two years of responsible professional service as an APRN or a PA in a mental health setting.
  • Certification as a Psychiatric Advanced Practice Nurse by a national agency recognized by the MN Board of Nursing or specialization as a Psychiatric PA
  • DEA Certification
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting a culture that respects and advances diversity and inclusion.

  • Experience working with individuals from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
