DoD SkillBridge, Business Development Specialist Intern

About the Skillbridge Internship Program:

Calvert Systems is proud to be an approved partner under the DoD SkillBridge Program under DoD Instruction 1322.29. The Calvert Systems SkillBridge Internship Program is an opportunity for transitioning military service members to gain valuable, civilian, work experience through an individual internship during their last 6 months of service, for up to 180 days. This program is open to all ranks and experience levels. SkillBridge participants are not eligible for compensation from Calvert Systems, as they continue to receive military compensation and benefits as active-duty service members. During this program the service member will be required to be on-site performing entry to mid-level job duties working a full-time schedule equivalent to 40 hours per week.

SkillBridge Internship Program Goals:

Offer transitioning service members skilled and experienced training that they will be able to use in the civilian workforce. SkillBridge Interns will serve as a pipeline for regular, full-time employment opportunities at Calvert Systems.

SkillBridge Internship Program Objectives:

Service Members completing the Internship program will be introduced to Calvert Systems' Mission, Vision and Values while being fully trained on how we execute to create long-lasting relationships, achieve company growth initiatives, and overall successes for us and our customers.

As a SkillBridge Intern working technical aspects of the Business Development Specialist position you will be responsible for learning Business Development operations, contracts, proposal writing and program management.

Who You Are and What You Need:



  • DoD SkillBridge eligibility required

    • Service Member must be within 12 months of separation or retirement
    • Service Member must receive written authorization and approval from the Unit Commander (first O-4/Field Grade commander in chain of command) to participate in DoD SkillBridge Program prior to start of internship
    • Service Member must be in good military standing with expectation to receive an honorable discharge
    • Service Member must have started the TAPS/TGPS program





What You Will Do:



  • Gain Proficiency in Program Management Processes

    • Develop a working knowledge of core program management workflows, including contract setup and execution, expenditure planning, Monthly Status Reports (MSRs), Contract Data Requirements Lists (CDRLs), and internal policy/procedure review.


  • Understand Business Development Operations

    • Acquire insight into business development strategies by learning to source and track Requests for Proposals (RFPs), conduct research on potential opportunities including incumbent contractors and government customers, and utilize the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tool to manage contacts and opportunity pipelines.


  • Develop Proposal Writing Skills

    • Build expertise in proposal development through hands-on assignments, such as drafting technical papers (e.g., on space weather and emerging space opportunities relevant to Calvert), contributing to team-based proposal writing, participating in editing and refinement processes, and supporting the final submission process, including white-glove review.
