Pay Grade/Pay Range: Minimum: $48,600 - Midpoint: $60,800 (Salaried E7)

Department/Organization: 214131 - Eng Student Services - Stud Support

Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:45pm

Job Summary: The Academic Advisor II provides guidance to University students on academic progress, courses, University resources, etc. Identifies courses to be completed in upcoming semesters. Explains University and College policies. Provides guidance and trains entry-level advisors. May teach compass course as needed.

Additional Department Summary: Works with a team of academic advisors to guide students through the educational process here at the Capstone. Uses appropriate advising practices/theories while working with students to foster academic success Advises students in course and major selection by communicating general education, College of Engineering, and major requirements. Communicates accurate and timely information and clarify University policies and procedures. Presents and assists with new student and transfer orientation sessions. Creates an environment where students are encouraged to learn, grow, and utilize institutional resources. Seeks opportunities to learn about the advising profession and contribute to the College of Engineering Advising Team and The University of Alabama. Oversees a particular project or area as specified in their job duties.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of academic advising experience; OR master's degree and some academic advising experience.

Skills and Knowledge: Demonstrated knowledge of academic advising and best practices. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Public speaking skills. Computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite and database management programs. Good planning, coordinating, and organizational skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to read and interpret policies and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications: Relevant experience with DegreeWorks and Banner.
