Job Description Summary:
The Driver Trainer position is responsible for assisting the area safety manager in the implementation and development of driver training programs, safety procedures and policies to reduce accidents, prevent loss and establish safe working conditions. This position is expected to maintain regulatory compliance documentation, promote an overall strong safety and compliance culture and implement programs for training and continued education of existing employees.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Train and Mentor: Provide comprehensive training to new drivers, covering safety protocols, driving techniques, and company policies.

  • Evaluate Performance: Assess driver skills through hands-on training and road tests, offering constructive feedback to help drivers improve.

  • Promote Safety: Emphasize safe driving practices and compliance with DOT regulations.

  • Support and Develop: Act as a resource for new drivers, offering guidance and support throughout their training period.

  • Maintain Records: Accurately document training progress and evaluations.

  • Accident Investigation: Conduct detailed reports of vehicle and OSHA investigations

  • On Call: To respond to emergencies

  • Travel Requirement: Up to 60%

Certifications/Licenses/Education:

  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License required

  • HS Diploma or equivalent preferred.

  • Valid USDOT Medical Examiner's Certificate (card).

  • Hazmat Endorsement (H or X Endorsement) preferred.

  • No Air Brake restrictions on CDL

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of CDL driving experience.

  • Must have a clean driving record.

  • Must have excellent organizational, written and oral communication and customer service skills. Ability to use computers; prefer experience with MS Office or Google Suite applications.

  • Prior knowledge of safety related and OSHA and FMCSA regulations preferred.

  • Ability to work independently and under some pressure to meet deadlines.

  • Ability to read and comprehend material data sheets.

  • Must have a high attention to detail.

  • Prior experience in the gas, welding and safety supply industries preferred.

  • Ability to be on Call to investigate emergency situations

  • Ability to travel up to 60% of the time.

  • Must have weekend availability

  • The ability to be flexible, and interface professionally with all levels of employees and Management

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Must have at least one year of CDL Class A or B driving experience with like equipment or graduated from an accredited truck driving school.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the Company.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals, and to calculate percent.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions.
