Position description

Applications are invited for:

TEMPORARY LECTURER POSITION IN ART HISTORY

UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, DAVIS

Fall 2025 (Sept 22 - Dec 12), Lecturer for AHI 180, Arts of the Rococo, Lecture-3 hours, Discussion 1 hour.

Course Description: This course familiarizes students with the art and architecture of Europe between approximately 1700 and 1770, a rich and complex era that falls under one of art history's most troubled stylistic designations: rococo. Condemned during the eighteenth century and since as degenerate, frivolous, ornamental, and feminine, rococo art has recently undergone a serious reevaluation. Rococo art challenges commonplace assumptions about value, quality, decoration, status, gendering, and even the ultimate purpose of art. The course shall examine paintings by renowned artists like Watteau, Boucher, and Hogarth; the interior decoration of elite palaces and churches; and luxury objects made of porcelain, silver, and precious wood.

Lectures are held twice weekly, schedule TBD
