Overview

Virginia Oncology Associates (VOA) is the largest group of medical professionals in Hampton Roads and Northeast North Carolina devoted exclusively to cancer care and blood disorders. We are currently seeking a PRN Pharmacist to support our Retail locations in our Norfolk, Suffolk and Newport News offices.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and dispenses medication orders.
  • Checks all orders for completeness of information. Verifies patient information and proper physician authorization. Checks all orders for insurance approval.
  • Calls patients at appropriate times after prescription fills to intervene when indicated and support adherence to therapy
  • Provides oversight to pharmacy staff to assure efficient workflow and timely prescription fills
  • Manages daily drug inventories and accurate end of month inventory submission to accounting
  • Maintains effective working relationships with pharmaceutical manufacturers, wholesale distributors, and payor contracting groups
  • Assures that SOPs are complete, current, and compliant with compendial standards for retail/specialty pharmacy dispensing

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's in pharmacy from an accredited institution, Doctorate preferred
  • Minimum three years in Retail Pharmacy preferred
  • Knowledge of Specialty Pharmacy and URAC accreditation requirements
  • Knowledge of cancer care and cancer medications strongly preferred
  • Proficient with Pharmacy Management systems
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Must be registered or eligible for registration as a pharmacist in the state of Virginia
  • Ability to communicate drug information, effects and side effects with patients and clinical staff
  • Ability to work well with co-workers, patients/caregivers, and physicians
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws regulating pharmacy practice and controlled substances
