We are currently searching for a Global Health Director.

Primary Responsibilities

HDR's Global Director of Health leads a multidisciplinary practice and sets strategy to advance design excellence, drive growth, and strengthen client impact across the healthcare industry. This position aligns market strategy, business development, design quality and operations to deliver measurable outcomes to clients and our organization.

Responsibilities:

Practice Leadership

  • Lead ongoing evaluation of our health sector practice across regions. Identify strengths, gaps, and priority improvements.

  • Set and execute growth strategies that align resources, skills, and delivery capacity with market opportunity.

  • Recruit, develop, mentor, and retain leaders and teams. Support onboarding and succession planning.

  • Provide executive guidance to project teams and, when appropriate, serve in a visible client advisory role.

  • Oversee practice reporting in partnership with the Health Strategic Manager(s), including goals, bookings, pursuit volume, win rate, marketing spend versus budget, and top pursuits.

Business Development and Market Strategy

  • In partnership with Regional Health Directors and Health Principals, lead overall market sector business development to identify priorities, strategies and associated target clients.

  • Lead annual sector planning by establishing annual fee goals, marketing budgets, and expected planning outcomes.

  • Coordinate with Managing Principals, Project Principals, Design Principals, and Health teams to position and win priority pursuits.

  • Build and maintain executive relationships with key clients.

  • Partner with the Health Strategic Growth Director on research, market trend and competitor analysis, predictive insights, and network building.

  • Lead or support Go-No-Go reviews, fee strategy, and alternative delivery approaches.

  • Coach pursuit teams on client capture plans, pre-marketing, proposals, and interviews.

  • Form strategic partnerships within or outside the industry to support and achieve our strategic business initiatives.

Brand and Thought Leadership

  • Set the strategy for annual market sector communications planning to elevate HDR's brand, design excellence, and thought leadership.

  • Guide the strategy for external communications and PR, including conferences, abstracts, media engagement, social channels, design awards, and website features.

  • Guide the strategy for internal communications and events, including annual kickoffs, strategic announcements, monthly webinars, regional meetings and knowledge sharing.

Market Sector Infrastructure

  • Produce a monthly global pursuit report in partnership with the Health Strategic Manager(s).

  • Establish a consistent process to build and maintain accurate client distribution lists.

  • Lead content for special presentations such as road shows, cross-sector programs, acquisition presentations, and corporate events.

Position will be located in an existing US based HDR architecture office: Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Phoenix, Denver, Omaha, Kansas City, Chicago, Minneapolis, Dallas, Houston, Boston, New York, Pennington, Philadelphia, Arlington, Richmond, Charlotte, Raleigh, Atlanta, Tampa
Preferred Qualifications
  • Extensive knowledge and experience within the Health Sector.
  • Experience with successfully developing and executing targeted market and client strategies.
  • Advanced credentialing desired (e.g. ACHA, LEED, EDAC, etc)
  • Willing to travel.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture
  • Registered Architect
  • A minimum of 12 years industry experience including leadership
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong skills in client management, client development and a documented history of growing/leading a practice
  • Strong business skills; specifically handling budgets, staff and operational issues
  • Strong ability to analyze the marketplace and strategically position HDR
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

The expected compensation range for this position depends upon skills, experience, education and geographical location. (Stated benefits are for full-time regular positions. Temporary and part-time roles eligible for limited benefits.) Anticipated pay range in Minneapolis: $181,104 - $258,720; Chicago / Denver / San Diego: $189,728 - $271,040; Los Angeles / Pennington: $198,352 - $283,360; Seattle: $206,976 - $295,680; New York: $215,600 - $308,000; San Francisco $224,224 - $320,320
