The Department of Psychiatry (DOP) at the University of Colorado School of Medicine (CU), the Division of Child and Adolescent Mental Health (DCAMH), and the Pediatric Mental Health Institute (PMHI) of Children's Hospital Colorado (CHCO) has an opening for a Section Head of Hospital Intensive Services within the PMHI/CHCO, and faculty within the DCAMH/DOP at CU.










Job Summary:



The CU DCAMH, PMHI, and CHCO are combining to transform children's mental health care in Colorado, building a coordinated system, grounded in collaboration and partnership, that provides all children high-quality, evidence-based, youth- and family-centered care through an ambitious and comprehensive strategic plan. As part of this transformative work, we are seeking a Section Head of Hospital Intensive Services to join our efforts who has a vision towards advancing clinical care, research, and education to further the mission of the Section as a national leader in child mental health services. This leader will be dedicated to improving care for patients within the PMHI Section of Hospital Intensive Services (medical and psychiatric inpatient units, consultative (CL), Emergency Department (ED), and Crisis clinical services). The PMHI Hospital Intensive Services has approximately 35 faculty practicing at CHCO, across four campuses (Anschutz Medical Campus, Colorado Springs, North, and South campus), for whom the Section Head will hold primary responsibility. In addition, the PMHI Section Head of Hospital Intensive Services will have matrixed responsibilities to over 300 staff employed by CHCO, in collaboration with the PMHI Director of Patient Care Services. As the largest medical center in the western region of the United States providing such broad expertise, CHCO is the multi-state referral center for children and adolescents seeking care from a team of specially trained mental health professionals.

Preferred is an individual with an accomplished academic record, demonstrated programmatic leadership, and experience within a high-functioning, diverse, academic pediatric mental health program and team. The candidate will be responsible for sustaining and growing the Section, managing system of care clinical practice sites, enhancing multi-disciplinary quality and research programs, and fostering strong, collaborative relationships with both external and internal stakeholders.

Ideal candidates should have proven leadership experience and skills to direct the clinical, quality, research, and educational programs of the Section, demonstrate a strong clinical practice background, scholarship, interdisciplinary team leadership and administrative experience. A successful candidate must have demonstrated excellence in mentoring and working with faculty, trainees (fellows, residents, students), and administration from a wide range of disciplines, cultures, and academic backgrounds.

Section Head Responsibilities



  • In collaboration with PMHI leadership, oversee the programmatic and financial operations of the Section to ensure financial and human resources are available to support research, clinical care, educational, and advocacy/policy activities.
  • Develop innovative clinical, educational, quality and research programs to enhance the local standing and national reputation of the Section.
  • In collaboration with PMHI and Section leadership, direct and strategically organize clinical patient care operations across the system of care.
  • Accountable for Section goals and key performance indicators.
  • Oversee Section strategic initiatives, drive implementation and track outcomes.
  • Lead the development, implementation, and integration of interdisciplinary educational, scholarly and clinical training programs within the Section.
  • In collaboration with PMHI and Section leadership, lead faculty recruitment efforts.
  • Facilitate faculty wellness, faculty development, and overall job satisfaction, leading to high faculty retention within the Section.
  • Provide mentorship to and conduct annual reviews of faculty leaders within the Section.
  • Establish and monitor metrics and outcomes for clinical and academic performance.
  • Oversee credentialing review and approval of all Section faculty including initial and ongoing performance evaluation.
  • Oversee departmental compliance with regulatory requirements and quality improvement.
  • Facilitate collaboration in academic and clinical care across the CHCO system of care, with other Sections within the DOP, and other Departments within the CU School of Medicine.
  • Conduct high-quality research and support research and scholarship efforts of other faculty within the Section.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with affiliate institutions and community organizations locally, nationally and internationally.
  • Partner with the CHCO Foundation to develop community philanthropic support of mental health programs and initiatives.


Clinical Care Responsibilities



  • Provide direct clinical care to patients and families seen in relevant PMHI clinical services


Other Responsibilities/All Faculty Requirements



  • Contribute to the DOP teaching and scholarship in ways consistent with the expectations of CU faculty
  • Engage in service to the department, hospital, and local/regional/national organizations
  • Maintain eligibility for CU faculty appointment

Minimum Qualifications:

This is an open rank position and could be categorized as Associate Professor or Professor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below:

Associate Professor:



  • 4-7 years of relevant clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum degree qualifications: Ph.D. or Psy.D.; M.D. or D.O.
  • At the time of hire, applicants must have a License or be eligible for licensure within the state of Colorado.


Professor:



  • 7+ years of relevant clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum degree qualifications: Ph.D. or Psy.D.; M.D. or D.O.
  • At the time of hire, applicants must have a License or be eligible for licensure within the state of Colorado.


Preferred Qualifications (applicable for all ranks):



  • Proven clinical and administrative experience in the development and leadership of mental health programs
  • Accomplished academic record
  • Strong commitment and demonstrated excellence to educational/training programs
  • Experience working in an academic medical center

Anticipated Pay Range:



The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

MD/DO

Associate Professor: $255,000 to $278,000

Professor: $300,000 to $315,000

PhD/PsyD

Associate Professor: $130,000 to $145,000

Professor: $180,000 to $215,000

This position is eligible for an administrative leadership stipend between $6,000 - $9,000/year.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
