JOB ANNOUNCEMENT Aviation Security Engineer, GY12 CHICAGO DEPARTMENT OF AVIATION MIS Division Number of Positions: 1 (Additional vacancies possible pending budget approval) Starting Salary: $115,992 Applications for this position will be accepted until 11:59pm CDT on August 11, 2025. ESSENTIAL DUTIES * Network Manage, monitor, and troubleshoot network hardware and software to ensure optimal performance and availability. Collaborate with IT teams to redesign, optimize, and integrate the network infrastructure to align with evolving business needs. * Perform routine network performance analyses to ensure reliability, scalability, and efficiency. * Maintain deep technical expertise in networking and security technologies, including router, switching, and firewalls. * Lead or contribute to complex projects involving the integration of multiple technologies across various disciplines. * Diagnose and resolve critical and recurring issues related to network availability, security, performance, and connectivity-both on-site and remotely. * Research, evaluate, and propose emerging technologies that enhance and future-proof the current network environment. * Develop enforce security policies, and best practice security measures for IT environment: including but not limited to network & firewall rules, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), SaaS resources and endpoints. * Investigate security incidents, validate vulnerabilities, and work with the IT Security Specialist team to assess risks. * Collaborate with the IT Director, IT Security Manager, and Assistant IT Director to align security efforts with organizational goals. * Monitor security tools and alerts, analyze data to detect potential threats, and investigate anomalies. * Design, implement, and optimize security solutions to safeguard systems, networks, and operational technology (OT). * Conduct vulnerability scans, penetration testing, and other security assessments to ensure compliance and risk mitigation. * Document incident findings, root causes, and resolutions to improve future incident response and prevention. * Provide mentorship to junior team members, fostering a collaborative and knowledgeable environment. * Manage and optimize security infrastructure, ensuring systems are resilient and defenses are continuously updated. * Perform additional tasks as assigned by leadership to support the evolving security landscape
Additional duties may be required for this position. Location: 8420 W. Bryn Mawr 8th FL Days: Monday - Friday Hours: 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. THIS POSITION IS EXEMPT FROM THE CAREER SERVICE Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Seven (7) years of work experience in information security, network architecture, engineering, application development, or designing and deploying security solutions, OR Graduation from an accredited college with an associate's degree in computer science, Information Systems, Cybersecurity or a directly related field, plus five (5) years of work experience in information security, network architecture, engineering, application development, or designing and deploying security solutions, OR Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, Cybersecurity or a directly related field, plus three (3) years of work experience in information security, network architecture, engineering, application development, or designing and deploying security solutions, OR Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Systems, Cybersecurity or a directly related field, plus two (2) years of work experience in information security, network architecture, engineering, application development, or designing and deploying security solutions Licensure, Certification, or Other Qualification. NOTE: Must be flexible to early and/or late meetings and occasional weekends. NOTE: Must be flexible to travel to Midway Airport, based on operational needs. NOTE: This position requires a valid driver's license at the time of hire. NOTE: The candidates selected for hire must pass an airport background check and a Security Threat Assessment.
