As a Corporate Counsel, Privacy and Products, you will be a key member of our dynamic and collaborative legal team and a trusted advisor to teams across business functions including, commercial, product, engineering, and procurement teams. You will work in two critical areas of legal function within Cloudera: (i) data privacy/protection and (ii) product counseling with a focus on open source license compliance. You will also have opportunities to support and advance Cloudera's AI strategy by working on both internal use initiatives, as well as use of AI relating to products and services we provide to our customers. You will be a key contributor to the success of our business.

As a Corporate Counsel, Privacy and Product, you will:

  • Help to ensure compliance with global data privacy and data protection laws in all areas of the company's business, including with respect to customer engagements, vendor management, product development and release, and other company initiatives;

  • Partner closely with product, engineering, and various go-to-market teams to help ensure that Cloudera complies with the open source license requirements when we use, distribute, and contribute open source software;

  • Guide and support Cloudera's commercial legal team on questions related to data privacy and protection, as well as open source and other product related licensing matters, for both inbound and outbound transactions;

  • Support the development, implementation, and optimization of compliance policies and procedures relating to data privacy and protection, open source software, and other third party software licenses;

  • Contribute to education and training programs relating to data privacy, data protection as well as open source and general license compliance;

  • Provide support for the company's AI related initiatives, including internal use of AI and use of AI relating to Company's product and services; and

  • Help to support and advance Cloudera's overall product strategies, by engaging in broader product counseling and IP matters.

You must have:

  • A J.D. degree and be a member of local state bar;

  • 2 to 4 years of legal experience, with deep working knowledge of data privacy and protection laws gained from at least 2 years of hands-on experience working in the following areas: data processing activity records, data processor management, including the negotiation of data protection/processing agreements, data protection impact assessments, and privacy rights requests.

We are excited about you if you have:

  • At least one of the following certifications: CIPP/US, CIPP/E, CIPT, CIPM, AIGP;

  • Working knowledge of open source licensing gained from hands-on experience analyzing and reviewing open source compliance issues in product development;

  • Experience working at a fast-paced technology company advising commercial and technical teams on compliance with legal requirements;

  • A solution oriented approach and a strong interest in diving deep into the complexities of products and underlying technologies;

  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross functional teams, assess ambiguous situations, and provide clear legal guidance in a manner that is understandable by lawyers and non-lawyers alike;

  • Working understanding of or strong interest in software product development lifecycle, processes, technologies, and tools; and

  • Experience or interest in working with other areas of compliance, such as AI regulations.
