Position Summary

The Clinical Nurse Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Programs medical services working in conjunction with the Designated Health Authority. This includes client care, technical services, staffing, and clerical practices.

Essential Job Duties



  • Ensure that all program youth receive the proper medical treatment as dictated by the Department of Juvenile Justice's Health Services Rule 63M-2,
  • Ensure that all medical needs are addressed in a timely and professional manner in line with all state, local, federal, and AMIkids requirements,
  • Ensure appropriate licensure, certifications and quality standards are met and maintained for all Health Services Team Members,
  • Effectively implement AMIkids Way (Kids First, Safety, and Family) and key elements of Positive Youth Development (Relationships, Meaningful Participation, Community Involvement, and Challenged & Engaged Programming) and the AMIkids Personal Growth Model (PGM) in all interactions with students,
  • Actively ensure all interactions reflect Kids First, Safety, Family, Relationships, Meaningful Participation, Challenge and Engaged environment and Community Involvement,
  • Interactions with youth shall maintain an environment that provides a physically/emotionally safe space for youth and effective learning, growth, and progress toward individualized goals,
  • Model supportive, consistent, respectful behavior with all parties to ensure an atmosphere that fosters healthy relationships, trust, and mutual respect; set clear boundaries and provide observations and reflection to youth,
  • Prepare the schedule and ensure continuous nursing coverage meets contractual and operational requirements, including development and implementation of on call schedule, and provide nursing support services for unscheduled absences or for client care, as needed,
  • Select, orient, supervise, and evaluate the staff; establish standards of performance and maintain an evaluation system,
  • Identify educational needs for staff Health Service Team members and establish development and quality improvement programs,
  • Conduct compliance checks and audits as needed to ensure safe and efficient delivery of medical services,
  • Communicate with Administration and/or Shift Supervisor every day prior to sick call,
  • Conduct daily sick call as required by policy,
  • Maintain clear, effective communication between nursing staff, administration staff and program staff,
  • Communicate and administer nursing policies and procedures and participates in development of new policies and procedures specific to nursing operations,
  • Supervise the administration of all medication and maintain Medication Administration Records for all program clients,
  • Supervise all medication procurement, perpetual inventories, and proper storage,
  • Ensure follow-up instructions from all off-campus treatments are followed as scheduled and recorded in the medical records as indicated in the DJJ Health Services Rule 63M-2,
  • Conduct and document in-service training for all staff regarding medical related issues,
  • Conduct and document health education classes for all youth/family, as needed,
  • Maintain medical areas in clean, professional and kids' friendly manner,
  • Prevent and intervene in youth altercations and incidents, using the authorized state mandated training methods,
  • May be required to work evenings and weekends as needed,
  • Attend and maintain appropriate crisis intervention/de-escalation training and certification as defined by state and contract requirements,
  • Attend and maintain CPR and First Aid certification by nationally recognized organization,
  • Attend required training/professional development events and maintain appropriate certification(s) and license(s),
  • Transport students and may drive for other work-related tasks,
  • Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.


Minimum Education, Training and Experience



  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited school of nursing,
  • Current licensure in the State of Florida as a Registered Nurse (RN),
  • Two to three years RN experience,
  • One (1) year of supervisory experience, preferred,
  • Experience working with youth preferred,
  • Strong clinical, analytical, and decision-making skills.
