Position Overview

The Security Supervisor is responsible for providing leadership and the efficient supervision for the Security Section through proper leadership and guidance of Security Officers in the performance of their duties. Effective clerical and administrative skills are necessary for this position. Security Supervisors work independently with little or no direct supervision and must perform their duties in accordance with university and departmental policies, procedures, rules and regulations, state personnel regulations, and the general principles of security work that includes monitoring subordinates for compliance with same. When possible, the immediate supervisor will brief the Security Supervisor on any special duties or circumstances that may require additional attention; otherwise, this position is expected to make informed decisions and keep supervision informed on matters.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:30 am to 4:00 pm

Job Description
40%:
Interview, provide recommendations for hiring, train and schedule Security Officers at the Spencer Museum of Art. Exhibit working knowledge of current situations, policies, principles, procedures, rules and regulations that govern the work of the Security Section. Disseminate information to the Security Officers, as appropriate or required, in formal and informal briefings, training sessions, and in the field. Assign subordinates to provide balanced coverage for priority situations, special circumstances, events, and routine responsibilities. Review the work of subordinates as well as observing, instructing, and correcting as necessary. Enforce and ensure that all policies, principles, procedures, rules and regulations are followed. Provide immediate action where violations occur. Provide the first step in taking any corrective personnel action involving a subordinate. Provide probationary and annual performance evaluations for all subordinates. Comply in good faith with EEO/Affirmative action principles and policies in all areas of staff responsibility with no instances of legitimate complaint; demonstrate good faith in meeting goals. Provide, review, and approve all log sheets or other forms used by member. Standards are to be set and complied with as far as accuracy, composition and neatness. Maintain a strong working knowledge of the Clery Act reporting requirements. Maintain and publish the Clery daily crime log for the Spencer Museum of Art. All unit paperwork must be forwarded to the appropriate authority for safety and security maintenance.

20%:
Perform, when necessary for proper unit operations, the duties of a Security Officer. Assist subordinates in emergency and complex situations. Complete internal incident reports. Review and approve subordinate's internal incident reports and distribute internal incident reports to appropriate stakeholders. Assist subordinates in locking/unlocking buildings, opening/closing for reservations and other time-related duties. During emergencies and special events, the Security Supervisor may work a non-supervisor post while assisting police or other emergency agencies. Must know and be capable of performing all assignments, routines, and duties of a Security Officer and must know how to operate and demonstrate appropriate operation of radios, vehicles, computers and other unit equipment in a legal and appropriate manner. Responsible for all departmental equipment, uniforms and supplies issued to the individual Security Officer.

15%:
Establish and maintain professional contact with University employees, students, and others on campus and to obtain cooperation in providing safety and security for the University community. Act as a resource for information on unit operations, in particular, and campus safety, in general. Work with the University to identify CCTV, alarms and access needs as requested including such things as alarm components and other various technologies. Coordinate preservation of CCTV footage from incidents with Public Safety Manager, coordinate delivery of CCTV footage to valid requestors. Stay current on industry standards and the technology available.

10%:
Review and approve time for payroll submission in HR/Pay; input security logs information in the computer system for statistical and analysis purposes; prepare a variety of university, state, and internal forms for repairs, purchases, maintenance and personnel actions; provide information form inspections for support of a campus building database; handle reservations; respond to non- personnel and personnel complaints; inspect and maintain equipment/supply inventories either in general use or held by other unit personnel; inspect and oversees the repair and replacement of unit issued equipment and uniforms; and becomes directly involved in the day-to-day repairs, maintenance, and/or transportation of equipment/supplies for use by subordinates and the unit. Through knowledge in these areas, provide recommendations directly to the immediate supervisor on budget and personnel related matters. Represent the section on internal and external committees, as assigned.

10%:
Attend all required training courses and utilize that training to enhance the operation of the unit. Keep up-to date on current internal and external security issues, procedures and equipment for recommendations on operational changes. Develop and schedule training for external security issues, procedures and equipment for recommendations on operational changes. Develop and schedule training for subordinates in support of the operation; provide training for new employees and provide training on a variety of topics for all employees. Act as a resource for information and proper response in security and safety methods. Capable of providing proper training for other University staff on a variety of safety and security topics upon request.

5%:
Perform other duties and tasks as assigned. Proactively identify responsibilities that enhance the role of the Security Supervisor and partner relationships.

Position Requirements
  1. U.S. citizen or non-U.S. citizen legally able to perform the work in or for the United States. (NOTE: Naturalized U.S. citizens and non-U.S. citizens legally able to perform work in or for the U.S. must provide appropriate official documentation for proof of such.)
  2. Must be free of any diversions for or convictions of felonies and free of serious misdemeanors.
  3. Must have current and maintain a valid driver's license.
  4. Must be at least 21 years of age.
  5. Must pass a thorough background check.
  6. Ability to perform all essential job functions and not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of self or others

Required Qualifications
  1. High school diploma or completion of a G.E.D. equivalency.
  2. Minimum of three (3) years experience in a post-assigned security position.

Preferred Qualifications
  1. Two (2) years experience in a supervisory capacity such as a field-training officer.
