Position Summary This position is for the University
of New Mexico-Gallup Branch located in Gallup, NM, approximately 138 miles west
of Albuquerque, NM


The University of New Mexico Gallup
Branch, Liberal Arts & Education Division seeks to hire temporary part-time
faculty members to teach face-to-face undergraduate-level physical activity,
exercise and/or wellness-related classes in the Fall 2025, Spring and Summer 2026
semesters. Some of these courses include:

Candidates should indicate on their cover letter the area, or
areas, of their interest, expertise, and experience. Candidates
may also indicate potential new courses in their cover letter should their
education and credential provide sufficient support.

UNM Gallup instructors are responsible for all aspects of any
class they are teaching including but not limited to meeting with the class
during assigned times that may include online, evenings and/or weekends,
content delivery, assignment development, grading assignments, reporting of
grades, and assessment of student learning as outlined by the department chair.

Positions are contingent upon need each semester as determined by student
enrollment levels, current course offering matrix, and demand driven by
graduation requirements. Positions may be filled or eliminated each
semester up to the deadline for students to drop or add courses.
Candidates who are selected for these positions will report to the
division chair.

Salary
Adjunct faculty are currently compensated on the
basis of their credentials and credit hour course loads. Salary range:
$1,135.26 - $1,228.24 per credit hour.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Extensive
    knowledge, skills, and abilities in area of expertise, along with leadership,
    communication, and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's
    degree in kinesiology, exercise science, fitness management, or related degree
  • Appropriate activity certification, as needed (see application instructions)
  • American Red Cross CPR/Basic Life Support certification (can also be earned
    within 30 days of employment)
  • Teaching experience preferred.
  • A demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university's mission to serve local and global communities.

Cover letter and resume are also required. In the cover letter, the applicant should explain how their resume and work history satisfies any and all of the Higher Learning Commission credentialing factors for the Physical Education Non-Professional activity courses they are applying to instruct. These factors may include: 1. An Associate or Baccalaureate degree in physical education or related field; 2. Certification and/or advanced achievement in the content area and/or as a health fitness instructor from a credible national organization, board or accrediting body; 3. Professional performance, honors, awards, or significant recognition that indicates the individual's level of discipline-based content knowledge; or 4. Other demonstrated competencies and achievements relevant to the content of the course.

Applicants who are appointed to a UNM faculty position are required to provide an official certification of successful completion of all degree requirements prior to their initial employment with UNM.
