The Operational Risk Lead plays a critical role in identifying, assessing, and mitigating health and safety risks across manufacturing and operational environments within the automotive sector. This position supports the Corporate H&S team by developing and implementing risk management strategies that align with corporate objectives, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices. The role requires close collaboration with manufacturing, engineering, maintenance, and launch teams to proactively manage operational risks and ensure a safe working environment. Key Responsibilities:
- Risk Identification & Assessment
- Lead the development and execution ofJob Safety Risk Assessments (JSRAs)for bothroutine and non-routine tasks, ensuring hazards are identified and mitigated before work begins.
- Facilitate cross-functional risk reviews for new equipment, processes, and changes in operations.
- Maintain a centralized risk register and ensure timely updates based on operational changes or incident learnings.
- Program Development & Implementation
- Develop and implement operational risk management frameworks, tools, and procedures.
- Integrate risk management into H&S programs, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Incident Investigation & Root Cause Analysis
- Lead or support investigations of significant incidents and near misses.
- Perform root cause analysis and develop corrective and preventive action plans.
- Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
- Work closely with plant leadership, engineering, and launch teams to embed risk controls into design and operational planning.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment of risk mitigation strategies with business goals.
- Data Analysis & Reporting
- Analyze incident trends, audit findings, and risk indicators to identify systemic issues.
- Prepare and present risk reports to senior leadership with actionable insights.
- Ensure compliance with applicable health and safety regulations (e.g., OHSA, WSIB, ISO 45001).
- Monitor changes in legislation and industry standards to maintain program relevance.
- Develop and deliver training on operational risk management and JSRA processes.
- Promote a proactive safety culture through communication and engagement initiatives.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in occupational health & safety, Risk Management, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field
- Strong knowledge of Federal, State, Provincial, and Local health and safety regulations, including OSHA, WSIB, and other applicable standards
- Demonstrated experience in identifying, assessing, and mitigating operational health and safety risks in a corporate or multi-site environment
- Ability to work flexible hours and travel as required to support business operations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present to senior leadership
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and enterprise risk management tools or platforms
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience in operational risk management, corporate health and safety, or industrial safety within a manufacturing or automotive environment
- Professional safety and risk certifications such a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC), Certified Risk Manager (CRM)
- Master's Degree in Safety, Risk Management, Engineering, or related discipline
- Familiarity with data analytics tools for risk trend analysis and reporting
- Experience leading cross-functional risk assessments and implementing corrective action plans
