New York Institute of Technology School of Health Professions Department of Physician Assistant Studies seeks an Assistant Professor (tenure track), located on the Old Westbury campus.



Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Teaching

    Teach courses in the didactic phase of the program, including developing and delivering lectures, leading small group sessions, and facilitating active learning activities.
  • Develop and update course syllabi, learning objectives, and assessment tools in alignment with program goals, ARC-PA standards, and current evidence-based medicine.
  • Mentor students on their capstone project.

Curriculum Development

  • Assist in designing and revising didactic and clinical curricula syllabi, learning objectives, and evaluation criteria to ensure alignment with program learning outcomes and accreditation standards.

Student Remediation and Advising

  • Monitor students' academic and clinical performance and implement remediation plans for those needing additional support.
  • Serve as a mentor for students navigating academic, clinical, and professional challenges.

Program Evaluation and Accreditation

  • Collaborate with the Program Director, faculty, and staff on collecting, analyzing, and reporting program data for continuous quality improvement and compliance with ARC-PA standards.
  • Participate in evaluations of institutional support, curriculum, resources, operational policies, and clinical site performance.
  • Identify program strengths and weaknesses and collaborate on actionable improvement plans.

Scholarship

  • Engage in scholarly activity, including research, publications, or presentations relevant to medical education or clinical practice.
  • Participate in collaborative research projects and foster student involvement in scholarly endeavors.

Service

  • Actively contribute to departmental, college, and university committees.
  • Participate in the program's admissions process, including reviewing applications, interviewing candidates, and contributing to final admissions decisions.


Qualifications

  • PA Candidates:
    * Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies or a related field.
    * Current NCCPA certification and NYS licensure (or eligible) in the State of New York.
    * At least three years of clinical experience as a practicing PA.
    * Demonstrated commitment to education, scholarship, and service.
  • Physician Candidates:
    * MD or DO from an accredited program
    * Licensure in the State of New York (or eligible)
    * Active ABMS or AOA specialty board certification
    * At least three years of full-time clinical experience

    Additional Preferred Qualifications:
    * Previous teaching experience in a PA program or other health professions education.
    * Familiarity with ARC-PA accreditation processes and standards.
    * Experience in curriculum design, student remediation, and program evaluation (remediation experience a significant plus)
    * Serving as a clinical preceptor may be considered in place of previous teaching experience.
