What You Will Be Doing:

In this position, you will be part of a fast-paced transportation planning team, responsible for managing complex projects which meet budget and schedule to client satisfaction for services related to transportation planning and project funding. In this role, you will be expected to lead a subset of our Midwest transportation funding team focused on securing funding for highway corridor and system infrastructure projects. Ideally, this role would also serve as a lead or support planner on large infrastructure projects requiring a robust funding plan for project delivery. Responsibilities are expected to include developing and facilitating the delivery of project implementation and funding plans, staying up to date on all relevant state and federal funding programs and proactively communicating opportunities internally and to clients, leading grant application teams with responsibility for quality deliverables, and leading strategies for persuasive project messaging and visuals that support application packages and state and federal lobbying efforts. This role exercises independent judgement and may provide oversight, supervision, and/or work direction to less experienced staff. The position also receives oversight and work direction from work group leaders.

What We Are Looking For:


  • Experience in project or large task management and support staff development
  • Thorough understanding of transportation funding programs (state and federal level)
  • General knowledge of the transportation project development processes
  • General knowledge of NEPA regulations (environmental focused)
  • Experience with competitive grant application preparation
  • Ability to guide development of persuasive project messaging and materials
  • Knowledge of transportation planning methods and application at the local and regional level
  • Public and agency engagement experience with transportation projects
  • Experience researching methods and statistical principles related to transportation infrastructure project needs and benefits to local and regional communities
  • Applied knowledge of methods and techniques of effective technical report preparation and presentations


Education and Experience:


  • Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in urban and regional planning, urban studies, architecture, landscape architecture, public policy or affiliated degrees.
  • 5- 10 years of progressive planning and/or grant writing experience
  • AICP certification
  • Strong skills in client needs assessment, meeting quality standards for service and evaluation of client satisfaction.
  • Possess a valid driver's license as travel to various facilities and job sites may be required
