Airport Maintenance Supervisor


Milwaukee County General Mitchell International Airport
Hourly Pay Range: $39.10 - $46.59

Job Summary: Plan, assign, direct, and coordinate the general maintenance activities at two County-owned Airports. This includes maintenance of grounds, buildings, equipment, fixtures, and facilities. Direct and monitor snow removal operations with a staff of up to 80 maintenance employees. Ensure safe and efficient maintenance operations. Motivate and discipline employees to comply to work rules and policies. This position will work first shift five days a week, with overtime required during emergencies and snow removal operations while needing to remain on call.



Essential Responsibilities:



  • Manage workload from all sources - Computerized Maintenance Management System, regular recurring assignments, emergencies, and special projects.
  • Personnel Management - Perform performance evaluations for employees and recommend performance improvement plans for staff. Investigate employee issues and counsel or discipline as needed to gain compliance with work rules and/or Civil Service Rules. Check time sheets for accuracy and coding.
  • Implement and ensure compliance with policies and procedures - Ensure compliance with Federal, State, County, and Airport policies, procedures, rules, regulations, and ordinances. Recommend improvements as necessary for the safety and protection of County property and personnel, and patrons.
  • Directs purchases and assist in budget preparation - Directs the purchase of equipment, materials and supplies and assist management in the development of equipment purchases and the annual operations budget.
  • Plan, prepare for, participate in, and lead airport snow removal operations - In cooperation with Airport Operations, plan, prepare for, direct, and monitor snow removal operations at both Milwaukee County Airports.
  • Develop and maintain a preventative maintenance program - Lead in the development, preparation, and implementation of a preventative maintenance plan to ensure compliance with FAA part 139 certification of airports of a safe airfield and airport.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.



Minimum Requirements:



  • Current resident of Wisconsin
  • Valid Wisconsin Driver's License
  • Associate's degree in construction, Facilities Management, Aviation, Public Administration, Business Administration
  • Lifting/Carrying 50 (lbs.) and Pushing/Pulling 150
  • At least Five (5) years of experience in Maintenance at an air carrier Airport and/or Public Works Department, Construction experience
  • Supervisory experience of at least Three (3) years at an air carrier Airport and/or Public Works Department, Construction experience
  • Additional Years of qualifying experience may substitute for degree on year for year basis



Note - Candidate must be able to work long hours during emergency situations and in adverse weather conditions and be on-call at all times.



Licenses/Certifications:



  • GMIA Class 1 Airfield license required within 6 months and maintained
  • AAAE/ACI/IFMA certifications preferred
  • (CDL) Commercial Driver's License-Class B with air brake endorsement required at the time of application



Note: This Original Examination is open to current residents of the State of Wisconsin. In accordance with Rule III section 11 of the Civil Service Rules a non-competitive examination will be held for this position. The non-competitive examination will consist of a review of candidate materials, education and related experience.
