Compensation Grade: P18Compensation Details: Minimum: $66,442.00 - Maximum: $66,442.00 AnnuallyDepartment (OPH) WADS - Wadsworth CenterJob Description: Responsibilities Health Research, Inc. is seeking a Research Scientist I to work within the Bacteriology Laboratory at the Wadsworth Center. The incumbent will contribute to bacterial disease wastewater surveillance through the development and utilization of cutting-edge technologies. This work will include contributing to the comparison and evaluation of wastewater processing methods and contributing to the development of digital PCR and metagenomic methods to provide new approaches to improve this surveillance testing. An array of bacteria of public health importance will be studied including those that are antimicrobial resistant vaccine preventable, sexually transmitted as well as other bacterial pathogens. This work will explore the correlation of wastewater testing to prediction of bacterial disease and antimicrobial resistance through comparison with other surveillance methods and clinical data. The goal is the evaluation of wastewater testing for improving public health surveillance in the community and healthcare facilities. This position will be part of a dynamic team serving the Wadsworth Center's mission in the New York State Department of Health's efforts to protect and promote the health of New York's citizens. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology and two years of research experience; OR a master's degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology and one year of research experience. Degrees must be from an accredited institution. This position will require the incumbent will meet all Federal requirements for staff who perform clinical testing, including the educational requirements. Preferred Qualifications Experience in molecular biology or microbiology, as well as performing real-time PCR, digital PCR and DNA sequencing on clinical specimens or environmental samples. Demonstrated, strong written and verbal communication skills. Experience analyzing data, preparing data summaries, performing literature reviews, and writing scientific papers. Conditions of Employment Grant funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required. This position will require the incumbent will meet all Federal requirements for staff who perform clinical testing, including the educational requirements.
