Job Summary

The Marketing & Graphic Design Student Assistant supports the Housing and Residential Experience (HRE) Marketing team by contributing to a wide range of creative projects. This role involves designing both print and digital materials that align with departmental branding and communication goals. The student assistant will play a key role in developing marketing content, assisting with visual storytelling, and executing design projects as assigned.

  • Create posters, digital signage, videos, flyers, web graphics, promotional materials, t-shirts to advertise and promote Housing & Residential Experience programs and activities includes meeting assigned deadlines.
  • Organize and manage project files.
  • Keep digital displays up-to-date.
  • Update annual documents.
  • Increase database of photos to be used in publications, website, promotional materials, etc. Will include photos of residential spaces and residence experience programs.
  • Must understand and work within University and Division of Student Affairs graphic standards and branding guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned that are logically related to the position and that support the Assistant Director of Marketing & Communications in achieving departmental goals.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Preferred candidates will be a junior, senior, or graduate student pursuing a design or digital media degree or related major.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite programs (Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign)
  • Knowledge of typography and ability to create layouts for both print and online platforms.
  • On top of the latest social media trends and marketing tools.
  • Ability to craft compelling messages through storytelling and scriptwriting.
  • Ability to effectively and positively represent FIU and the Department of Housing and Residential Experience in print, online, video and other media.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Undergraduate students must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA at the time of application and maintain a 2.5 cumulative and semester GPA for the duration of their employment. Graduate students must have a 3.0 cumulative GPA at the time of application and maintain a 3.0 cumulative and semester GPA for the duration of their employment. Grade checks will be completed at the end of every semester.
  • Must be registered for at least six (6) credit hours as an undergraduate student or three (3) credit hours as a graduate student.
  • Must be and remain in good standing with the Department and University, including no significant or recent student conduct history. All Housing Student Assistants will consent to conduct checks prior to hiring and at the end of every semester.
  • Prior to employment, must successfully complete a background check and fingerprinting as per the Housing and Residential Experience requirement.

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled as a student at FIU with a minimum of six (6) credits as an Undergraduate student or three (3) credits as a Graduate student during the Fall and Spring semesters.
  • During the Summer semesters, Students need only remain enrolled and are not required to take credit hours, but cannot have graduated.
  • Upon decreasing credit hours or graduating, student employment must end.
Work Schedule

  • Monday through Friday
  • Available between 8:30AM - 5:00 PM
  • Must be available to work 10-20 hours per week during the academic semesters.
