Minimum Qualifications
Two-year technical degree in the area of assignment, or equivalent combination of training and experience. Applicable certifications may be required. Technicians are trained in the applicable laws or inspection procedures through some combination of classroom and on-the-job training.

Essential Job Functions
-Primary contact to receive, clear, request and coordinate location of utilities through NC 811, App State facilities, and other proper channels. Occasional emergency after hours locates are required to be completed.
-Manages integration of record drawings with geographical information system ( GIS) staff.
-Performs simple condition reviews of electrical equipment and poles.
-Coordinates minor pole attachments with other utilities and communication providers.
-Performs field reviews of attachments. May prepare any required coordination documents and invoicing.
-Performs low complexity field design and sizing for overhead and underground electrical and fiber optic installations, using computer-aided and/or manual drafting techniques.
-Creates staking sheets/pick lists and enters into the Meridian support software.
-Produces simple estimates/invoices for reimbursement purposes.
-Ensures related meter/transformer data is updated in various systems.
-Manages low complexity projects
-Assists as needed in requirements related to the maintenance, operation, and communication infrastructure related to the automated electrical meter and fiber optic systems.
-Assist other staff with inventory of, loading, sorting, and gathering materials and equipment to support field work.
-May operate or assist with material handling via forklift or other means.
-Performs routine administrative/office work as required for the position, including attending meetings, entering computer data, preparing reports and correspondence, copying documents, etc.
-May interact and communicate with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, other department supervisors, co-workers, customers, utility companies, engineers, contractors, consultants, government agencies, sales representatives, and the general public.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position
Basic knowledge of Electrical Distribution/Fiber Optic/Meter systems, materials, and installation principles, practices and techniques.
Knowledge of business and engineering systems.
Knowledge of standard office procedures and equipment.
Knowledge of various industry standards/ordinances/regulations relating to the operations of the department to which assigned.
Ability to prepare technical information.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, private agency officials and the general public.
Must have the ability to operate University owned vehicles with a valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
Two-year technical degree in electrical technologies or equivalent combination of training and experience with electrical or utility work.

Forklift Operator trained within 3 months of hire. CDL preferred but not required.

Work Schedule/Hours
Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 4:00pm. Some call-backs related to utility locating requirements or major power outage restoration support.

Designated as MANDATORY, this position is expected to be available for work during University emergencies, closings and adverse weather conditions and other department defined events. Must relocated to approximately 20 minute commute to Boone within 6 months of hire.
