Moog Military Aircraft is looking for a Mechanical Engineering Supervisor (Section Head) to lead a team of 8-10 Mechanical Engineers in designing, developing, and integrating electromechanical and electro-hydraulic flight control and payload bay door actuators for military aircraft. Reporting to an Engineering Manager, you will have a 9/80 schedule option with hybrid work (at least 3 days/week in the office) in Torrance, CA.

As a Mechanical Engineering Section Head, you will:

  • Actively contribute as a key member in the design, integration, and verification of complex hydraulic, electromechanical, and rotary mechanical actuator systems for military aircraft.

  • Apply strong expertise in requirements-based mechanical actuator development.

  • Maintain high proficiency in geometric design and tolerancing (GD&T), advanced CAD tools (e.g., NX), and PLM systems (e.g., Teamcenter).

  • Participate in design reviews, product discussions across cross-functional teams and sites, and customer meetings to ensure technical excellence and alignment.

  • Support bid and proposal development, estimations, and R&D initiatives as needed.

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a growing team of 8-10 Mechanical Design Engineers, fostering competency, skills, efficiency, and career growth.

  • Provide clear goals, constructive feedback, recognition, and career planning to support individual and team development.

  • Collaborate with the design and site management to assign engineering resources to projects and ensure high-quality execution and team accountability.

  • Conduct performance reviews, participate in workforce planning, recruiting, and onboarding of new team members.

  • Champion and model best practices, core company values, and promote a culture of continuous improvement and world-class talent development.

  • Contribute to the long-term strategy for mechanical engineering development and lead implementation of new design processes and continuous improvement

To be considered for the role, here's what you'll need to bring with you:

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering preferred)

  • 7+ years of professional experience in the field of design engineering

  • Proven capabilities in the technical and professional field of aerospace design engineering thereby, possessing the strong ability to review, critique, and approve the engineering work of others

  • Experience leading or managing technical teams

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

This job requires access to United States export-controlled information.

It'd be great if you also had:

  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities and the ability to mentor and coach engineers of various skill sets and experience

  • Proficiency with NX software, Teamcenter, Mathcad, tolerance stack-ups, GD&T, Finite Element Analysis

  • Experience in the aerospace/defense industry

  • Experience with complex electrohydraulic or electromechanical actuators

  • DoD Secret clearance or the ability to obtain one; this requires US citizenship

Salary Range: $130,000 - $170,000 (Negotiable based on experience and qualifications)

Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance.
