Position Description:

The Department of Languages, Linguistics, Literatures, and Cultures at The University of Iowa seeks an 87%-time Visiting Instructor of Swahili for the 2025-2026 academic year. The successful candidate will be prepared to teach introductory and intermediate language courses. The teaching load, contingent upon enrollments, is seven courses per year.

Required qualifications: M.A. with a specialization in linguistics, second language acquisition, language pedagogy, or a related field; native or near-native fluency in Swahili and English; extensive experience in teaching Swahili at the college/university level.Desirable qualifications: Evidence of excellence in undergraduate language teaching; graduate degree in linguistics; ability to teach courses in linguistics or in a language other than Swahili that is currently represented in the Department of Languages, Linguistics, Literatures, and Cultures; expertise in language pedagogy and the use of multimedia technology in SLA.

Education Requirement:
